Take the $1,500 you have and put it towards that diamond ring she wants. Your gonna have to one day and if you do it now, then you may be able to keep your current toys. And if you're lucky, you may even get to play with them form time to time.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.

RE: HOW SHOULD I SPEND $1500 IN R/C???
I had Helis, electric and nitro, then I sold them and bought a Savage 4.6 SS. Now I am looking again at selling the 4.6 and get a electric heli again. I personally think the thrill of flying a heli is just something an RC car can never give you. If I were you, I would start with cheapest electric heli, learn to hover and then upgrade to better heli.

The best way to spend $1500.00 is to buy a Kyosho MP 777 SP2 1/8 buggy. Put a Nomadio radio set in it. Put a Novarossi .21 long stroke race buggy engine on it, and top it off with Futaba digital metal geared servos and Proline Crime Fighter tires and you my friend have well spent $1500.00 or a little bit more.
