Newbie mistakes with my savage
Has anyone ever done this? Started up your truck without your radio on?
I made this mistake the other day not paying attention. My savage took off full speed into a chain link fence. LOL It crossed a street and jumped right into it. Got wedged under it. I had to laugh. Luckily a car didnt run over it. Cars frequent this street.
I quickly ran over to it and turned my radio on and got control. Nothing broke thank god.
Share your rookie mistakes plz.
Looks like im buying a fail safe!

Once I did not know the former owner used 70/30 on the Tx, mine was set at 50/50. First time I fired it up it took off. My fault for not checking the servos ahead of time.

I put the wrong bushing in the spur gear... like last week. [&o]
Then I installed the clutch springs in backwords when I installed my 4.6K
Then... there was this one time, at band camp...[X(]

Ah, that's nothing. I ONCE started up my helicopter without switching on the transmitter [X(] It got to about 200ft before I could get control. It sure is a good way of learing though!

I always start without the radio on... coz mine has the throttle return spring

On the subject of mistakes...
Newb or old hand, if you've never made a mistake then you are far and away the exception, not the rule. If I had never made a mistake, I'd never have learned a lot of what I know.

Not with my savage, but it was definately a rookie mistake. I was flying inverted about 10' off the ground, making a low pass over the runway, and pulled *up*....
Totaled the plane, cracked my engine's crankcase in half, and there's still a dent in the asphalt where the spinner hit.

RE: Newbie mistakes with my savage
when I first started running my truck someone here wanted to know how many turns it was on the stock 4.6 HSN from fully closed to the line on the carb, so to help out I turned mine all in and out to count the turns, also back in again to be sure. that weekend I go out to play and pull my fingers to blisters trying to figure out why my truck wouldnt start, wile getting good fuel, new glow plug and fully charged starter,[:@] it wasnt till I was about to throw the truck that I remembered.

Yeah, but I bet looking back it was a spectacular crash. If ya gotta go, go out in a blaze of glory.
