Default Savage X transmission

I've got a Savage SS25 that I've put a Mach.26 in. Now I want to put in the three speed - I've already got the 3 speed kit. I've been considering getting a Savage X tranny to build as the 3 speed because it's easier to adjust the shift points of the 3 speed with the "X" case.
My questions are:
Will I need anything else besides the "X" transmission?
Will I need to change the slipper set up, the driveshafts, the brakes, linkages, etc?
Will my existing reverse module fit/work?
How is the "X" transmission/case holding up? Is it causing any other problems, like spurs stripping?
Are there any other "X" parts that are "musts" to get while I've got the truck apart?

Thanks for any input you can give.

Dave

Default RE: Savage X transmission

I do not have the X or a 3 speed as where I race I never get out of first gear. So I can change the spur or CB to get the gearing I need. I have read on a couple of other form sites some are suspecting the transmission might be causing problems but so far no one has proven it. I have all so seen where a good many people are installing the early slipper cultch to the X so I do not see a problem but once again have not done it to say for sure. There was a thread on this form a while back and someone said it was no problem to change it out and they had done it.

Default RE: Savage X transmission

i am running the HPI steel spur gear along with the Savage X gearbox case and 3 speed , so far I am not having any problems but I agree the multi piece X gearbox case doesn't look as strong as the original 2 piece gearbox case.

But it's is much easier to work on the shift points especially with the 3 speed as the 1st to 2nd shift point can only be adjusted from inside the gearbox so with the X gearbox you only have to remove the top cover to take the gears out.
