I do agree with you to a point. I like the Revo, and owned one for a little while. The revo is more designed for raceing, for Bashing you definetly want a Savage over a revo. The Revo with the right engine is very fast, and can take some punishment, but hands down the savage is best for bashing and power right out of the box. (small block vs. big block out of the box)

ORIGINAL: JakeJ

screw the revo iv had my savage 25 4 about 8 months now and all i broke on it was the spur gear and the old bodie, i go bashin every 2 days back on the ranch and with all the big jumps i go on the truck is still runnin at its best. dont get me wrong the revo does have some sweet looks but i think the suspention is tooo weak to be goin over big jumps like the savage. youll only break stuff if your a very crappy driver and i mean VERY CRAPPY.

to your comment aout the star being better i dont love either engine. the 3.3 offers better preformance for me than my star .25 the stars do give out easier in my local groups. just saying

which "argument" would you be most swayed by.......lol. not saying that argument 2 is the case and is always gonna be the case. just that he owns both and is sharing more information.

revo is a sweet truck for everything, and out of the box, is excellent at everything except from hardcore bashing. it can still bash very hard though. oh and if you beleive all the crap every savage owner will tell you that it is virtually indestructable, well just look at the HPI forums. just like the traxxas forums, THINGS BREAK. both great trucks. savage tougher but slower and heavier, and vice versa. i will admit i have never owned a savage, but have run them, and they are decent trucks IMO but i prefer my revo. perhaps if i got a savage and saw then ran revos, i would still prefer the savage, but i dount it.

JMO. opinions vary. experiences vary.

The Revo is a great truck, I had one and liked it. The other side of it is...the Savage is a STELLAR truck, I have one, and love it

I do not have a Revo but if they made it in a kit with out the engine and radio I might buy one. I will say the Revo is the only thing Traxxas makes I would consider if they made it in a kit. I do have a Savage which was a kit that came with the engine and after many gallons of fuel throw it I like it very much. Bottom line you will have to make a decision and live with it.
Good Luck

Both the Savage, and the Revo are excellent trucks. How much you break depends on how hard you bash, or how many times you crash at full speed. Both these trucks can take a beating and still go. I have owned a nitro rustler(1st nitro I ever got) A T-Maxx, A Revo, A Ofna LX comp, and a Savage 25 SS. For bashing in my opinion, my savvy has held up the best so far for me. You just simply need to go with what you like. I have seen the Revo in action with a BB, when it has that it is a sick truck, same with the Savage. Like I was saying both are excellent, I have just had more luck with my Savage not breaking, compared to my other nitro's.

Traxxas, and HPI both make a great truck.

Can anyone help me please!!!!
I have a savage 25 LE. I somehow broke my spur gear. All the teeth are worn away on it and it wont drive. I think the clutch was too tight on it. My question: I need a new spur gear. The one in the manual says it is 49 tooth but I only seem to be able to find 52 tooth and 47 tooth gears. I never even knew it was possible to get different ones. If i got the smaller one, would the gear not be able to reach the engine gear. If I got the bigger one, Would it fit on on?
Please let me know as I want to get it back on the road again soon
Thanks

Irish...the 47, 49, and 52 tooth spurs will all fit on your Savage. you just have to re-mesh the gears. it's not hard.

Irish, you can change the spur to any one of those. You probally had the slipper to tight. Remove your engine with the (4) screws under the truck that hold it to the chassis to gain access to the spur. Tightening the new spur down, first tighten it so that the slipper spring just gets to the point of being compressed, then back it out about 1/16 to 1/8 of a turn out. You should adjust your mesh with a piece of plain white paper.

Thanks a million for that. I will get the 52 tooth one so. just one more thing, You say to adjust the mesh with plain white paper. As ive never done this, I have no idea what the mesh is and when I see it, how I adjust it etc...maybe it'l be obvious when I see it but I just cant get a picture in my head lol...sorry.. its the first meachanical problem ive had wih the car. I spent a long time trying to tune it but after many wrong turns of the needles, I ended up mastering it and it drove like a dream until the spur went.
Once again thanks for the advise. I really appreciate it. If you could explain the mesh to me it'd be great...thanks

No problem Irish

The Mesh is the gap between the teeth on the clutchbell, and the spur gear.

See pictures. I will try to show in as best as possible in them

You are welcome

Here are some pics of my savage. I run with a fleet of savages, a revo, an lst2, and a CEN Nemisis.

Always glad to help when I can. Don't like to see anyone broken and down.

I think your sleeping with your Savage. (just kidding)
