What no general MT forum????
Hi guys I know I'm in the HPI forum so I might drop this in the losi one and get completely the opposite answers BUT
I can't make my mind up between a savage 4.6 or a losi LST2.
I would like to hear only from people who have experience with both.
the savage looks best but I like the idea of the reverse and changeable gearbox on the LST.
I'm a 1/8 buggy guy so not a noob and I don't mind 'build em up' kits
Cheers

RE: What no general MT forum????
I own a Savage LE and a LST2. Tough call. I prefer the Savage platform, and it's undeniably more rugged, but the LST2 is a blast right out of the box and it just keeps getting better.
Now after all the mods to each one, my Savage handles just as good or better than the LST. It has alot more power now too since the LST2 is still powered by the Mach427, so the Savage with it's LRP spec2 pretty much spanks it at everything. With both trucks dialed in good using the stock setup(except for upgraded electronics on the Savage), it was a fairly even match with the LST2 having a slight advantage.
I love driving both trucks, but at this point it doesn't look like the LST2 will ever take top honors away from the LE.... at least not in my opinion. The LST2 is a TON easier to drive though. It's like a stock Revo in that regard. Just tell it what to do and it does it. The Savage requires a more delicate touch with the controls.

Couple of important points that need clarifying:
1.) Do you want to race? If so, then surely the LST2 is better suited for that..
2.) Do you want to have a strong, tough basher out of the box? I looked into getting an LST2 a while back, but came away with major doubts about it: seems to need quite a few upgrades to make durable and reliably bash-worthy, so since for me durability and reliability are very high on my list of priorities, I say Savage all the way..
What you get extra in performance with the LST2 I think you'll have to pay for with more broken parts.., which for me anyway is a turn-off... And on the flip-side of that, what you lose in performance with the Savage(not the best at cornering, for ex..., but big deal if your thing is more launching off ramps or plowing through off-road terrain..) you make up for it tough-as-nails durability..

I race with my buggy so the truck would be for fun only. Durability is a priority for me. I just liked the idea of reverse gears and the Hi/Low gear settings on the LST. The savage (or LST not LST2) edges it on looks. As for handling well I don't want it to be on its back more than its wheels but as long as it can hold a hi speed WOT run without swerving all over the place and can corner reasonably well I'd be happy.

I like my LST much more than my savage. I like how I have total in air control with my LST. I just wish we had more gearing options from losi.. Get an LST2 and dont look back!
As for LST's not being capable bashers..lol.

Yeah, but for the price of your LST, he could buy three Savages...

Yeah but I mean, You can take a $580 LST2 out of the box, bash all day and probably just end up replacing an a-arm. But then theres always RPM arms.. which are super durable and I'd probably buy even if the LST2 arms were good!
Check this out, a busted TiNi shock rod from when I hit a boulder at WOT. NOTHING else broke.. I was amazed

Well, you're talking about ONE DAY, and all I can say from experience is that with my slow unmaneuverable old Savage 25 I've had 3-gallons and 10 months' worth of fun and have only had to replace one OWB(not including 3 or 4 glow-plugs, of course, and a few spur gears while learning to mesh right..) Question of one's own particular cost-benefit ratio, I guess..

Man when I go out bashing with ANY of my RC's seems they all break equally.. I have had a head on crash with a friends savage and my LST and my LST came out on top.. We could argue Durabillity vs. Durabillity all day long, but I think it'd be better to just leave it as if you get an LST, you'll be very pleased after you get over the sticker shock. Mine was worth every penny of my $580, imo.

It is very easy to put reverse in a Savage.

But you've got three times that in it now.. And I reckon a good deal of that was necessary rather early..

I'm not trying to argue with anybody, but if - leaving performance aside for a minute - ALL an LST2 needs to be as bash-worthy(i.e. tough and durable..) as a Savage is RPM arms, then I would've gotten one.. But on almost every forum I came across(here in Germany too..), most people's(I'm talking LST owners here..) lists were rather longer..
Anyway, peace and have fun and all that - but I feel pretty confident about my conclusions..

RE: What no general MT forum????
I`ve had two lst trucks . On both trucks all I needed to upgrade was the arms and diff cases . I beat the crap out of them along with my savage that I had . Savage is a great basher , except for the caster blocks and the rear diff kept blowing even with the upgraded set . I like both trucks but for basher and racer it is hands down lst . Patrick , you say you need to put a lot of money in a lst to bash , it might be true for some people , but it is the same for every savage if you plan to be competetive on a track . I have found with different forums between a savy and lst is like a ford vs chevy debate . Everyone has different experiances and different opinions .

Well, for one the X is RTR, and the 4.6 is a kit. The 4.6 of course has a bigger engine, as well as several of the heavy-duty upgrades(dog-bones - I believe, and hardened cups..) as well as Dirt Bonz tires(lighter = faster), tuned pipe for more performance, but no radio or servos, so you have to buy that yourself..

RE: What no general MT forum????
Sorted!
Its the 4.6 for me with a reverse module. I've got and XS3 anyway so I'll just buy a new receiver. The servos are ****e with radios and RTRs anyway so I'd rather just buy decent first time round.
Thanks guys, hope I haven't started an argument.

Part of it too is just the parts-availabilty scene here in Germany. I KNOW the LST2 is awesome once you get it all modded up to be tough and reliable, but I don't want to invest €750 on a truck to get started, and then have some little rinky-dink thing on it break and have to order it from the States and wait a month and then pay Customs extra for it..
Again, after ten months and nearly three gallons on my Savage, I've had to spend €19 on a OWB, and besides that it's only been glow plugs and spur gears.. Show me somebody out there with an LST(or ANY other truck.. I'm as confident of this as I can be of anything..) who can claim the same thing..
