nope any brand will do, spray it on and after a few minutes wipe the colour off. Dont leave it on too long though as it will etch the metal if left too long.

Get a large old platic container, HD oven cleaner, HD rubber gloves, old plyers and a wire brush. Do this outside
Put parts in container, put on rubber gloves, spray the heck out of them, let them sit for about a min or two, pick up with plyers and scrub with wire brush rinse under running water. Keep doin it till it all comes off. Here are some of my pieces.

I just pop it in my glass bead machine and if I want it to shine I put it on the buffer.

There are plenty of places that have a bead machine and they will probably bead the stuff cheap. Most machine shops have one or do you know some one that works in maintenance in a factory? If you lived close by I would do it for little or nothing just enough to cover my cost. Just a suggestion.

This is the first one I found but I have seen them cheaper. I have a much bigger one as I use it to clean motor parts on motorcycles when rebuilding. But this will give you and idea. They are a GREAT thing to have around! You have to have a decent air compressor as well to hook up ot it. It will make alloy look new.

Do you have to buff the aluminum after?
polish at all?
Also, the compresser is no issue, I have a stand up craftsman, big one.

You do not have to buff but can if that is the finish you want. It will not be shiny unless you buff. I use mine not only for my RC stuff but cleaning aluminum parts when rebuilding motorcycle engines and makes the parts look like new. It is all so good for striping paint and much more. There are different things you can use in it but I use glass beads.
Hope this helps and good luck.

Default RE: How does one de-anodize the purple peices?

go to Dollar Genreal and purchase a $3 bottle of Greased Lightning
get a plastic tupperware container
poor in enough to cover your parts
drop in the parts
give it about 2-3 minutespull it out and wipe the purple off ( you may have to flip it over and let it sit for the other side)
If left for to long it will dull the aluminum (etch look)

I have personally done this many times, about 20 seconds after you drop in the part you will see the color coming off, you don't need gloves unless you have sensative skin...

Like 46U said put it in a bead blaster. I know there arent many people that may have one (i surely dont) but if you can find a local machine shop they should have one. We have one where I work at so that is why I suggest going there. This would be alot easier to do in my opinion than soaking. It should be no big deal for someone to do this for you.
