i'm thinking about getting the HPI servo saver upgrade.
i already did the steering bearing upgrade.
but i just ordered a hi torque servo for steering and was wondering if i should do the servo saver upgrade also.

Are you sure you do not have one now? What Savage do you have as they came on most of the Savages in the last 1 1/2 years or so.

If you do not have one they you need to get one as they sure help to keep from stripping your servo gears.

ok i'll see if my LHS has it in stock.
man i herd i needed one but wasn't sure if it would help much.
i did the bearings and h toqure servo and a 1400 hump pak
so steering should be done with that saver.

Depends on how much you like your servo. It is called a servo saver as it protects the servo. I am surprised if you are not running one you have not stripped the gears in you steering servo or have you!

no they didn't strip but, with the savage not moving it wouldn't steer.
i could turn the remote either way and the tires wouldn't move if it wasn't moving.
bit it was a stock servo.

That all has to do with the servo. Like I said the servo saver is to protect the servo and will not help with how well the steering turns. My 4.6SS came with it so I have no idea about the older set up. If I am wrong some one correct me.

It’s better then stock and for bashing it is OK. It is slow as far as speed. I ran one in mine for a while then went to a 208oz with .13 speed and was the difference from night to day!

I also own a savage25 and upgraded the steering servo with a Hitec HS-645MG
I am only new so i didn't know about servo savers and i just put a alloy arm on it.
Like 46u said I stripped the servo in less than half a tank of bashing[:@]
So once you upgrade yours please post some pics so i can do the same thing
Also could you please post some pics or direct me to a tut on the steering bearing upgrade as i have done this either
thx

I have to be one of the very few left that is still running the stock servos in my Savage. Been running them for almost a year and so far they have not failed me, but they are very weak. I have actually been looking at the JR DZ9000T servo for a steering servo. Here is a link if you want to check it out:

http://cgi.ebay.com/JR-DZ9000T-Digit...QQcmdZViewItem

That should be enough torque to turn my big old heavy Savage wheels no matter what. It may even bend stock parts if the wheels do not turn. They also make a DZ9000S servo that is ultra fast for throttle but not as much torque.

Here is the best place I found for buying bearings. I just received 24 bearings and ended up costing me with shipping $1.12 per bearing.

The DZ9000T is a monster. The only way I will ever run anything else in a Savage is if JR or Airtronics comes out with one that's just as strong but has a faster transit time. I'd like the same servo but with something closer to a .10s sweep.

Tat, don't bother with any servo mounted saver. Just go straight to the newer cam style like you were asking about. You want every little bit of steering with these trucks that you can get. Even the MGT saver has too weak of a spring on it to hold your line properly witha single servo. A stronger servo does nothing to help a weak servo mounted saver. The cam type is adjustable from fully useless to fully locked. Of course you would run a solid servo arm with it, and an aluminum one is a good upgrade now since you don't have to worry about it tearing your servo up.

I can't stress enough the importance of properly setting up the steering on a Savage. It makes the truck tons more enjoyable.
You kind of shot yourself in the foot by going with that servo if you were expecting spectacular results, but it does okay for beating around and it's relatively cheap. I understand people running it to save a few bucks, but if you can do better... do better.

When I got my stronger servo I put the HS 645 on my throttle and brake. I do not like it as the HS 645 is by today’s standard very slow.20 at 6 volts. This will be changed shortly. But for bashing would not be a problem for racing it is to slow.
