RE: HPI spur gear steel
You have to run a hardened bell with a steel spur, and failures then woud be the result of either a defective part or bad meshing.
I've never run a steel spur in the Savage, but I would go with the HPI racing setup if I decided to.

Steel spur set up work very nice if they are set up correctly. I have two Robinson Racing sets that I run sometimes.
Yeah if you don't run a hardened bell or set your mesh right you will have problems.

I run an HPI steel spur with a HPI racing clutchbell and they work great. Don't use the locktite that comes with the spur, use some good stuff....trust me.[]

I also run the hpi steel spur, when I dropped my 457 in my X I had a tough time getting my vented cb off my 4.1 and it ended up in 2 pieces. I now run a robinson hardened cb with the steel spur and all's well.

I have the steel spur gear and it has been running fine for about a gallon. Make sure your mesh is correct. It will be fine as long as you run a racing clutch bell. You also want to check your mesh after you land a jump upside down.

I have the HPI steel one, the older sort... It is pretty good. some say it limits performance, but I bash so that isn't a problem for me.
