Way to remove ball bearings
Hi
I have just stripped my first 13 tooth bevel gear and I was going to replace the 43 tooth aswell. But then it came to removing the Ball bearing attached to the 43 tooth. Is there an easy way to remove it, as it seems to be fixed on so hard. I tried leavering it off with a screw driver, but no luck. Any Ideas?
Thanks

Wondering if you bearing is galled to the gear, as I have never had a problem with them on mine, which I have only had out when I shimmed and put diff oil in or serviced them. Make sure you shim them both the ring gear and pinion.

No, they are well fixed on. I will try again tommorrow, when I have access to the vice and hopefully I can put the 43 toother in the vice and get some more leaverage with the screw driver. Either that or I can get a wedge shape and try hammering it between the gear and ball bearing. I will try some heat while I'm at it. Is the protective seal around the outside made of plastic or rubber, or metal?

The seals more then likely are rubber. They should be able to stand some heat but you have to be careful. I use a very small pinpoint refillable butane torch which all so works well for losing up loctite. You all so need to try and pull it off with out cocking it. Might be better just to get another bearing.

Thanks. If I cant get it off I'll just get another one. It isn't worth taking too much time over.

Avid bearings but they do have a handling charge as well as you have to pay shipping but I got $25 bearing and the cost me something like $1.15 each with handling and shipping. They seem to be very good bearings and there service is very good as well.
