Powerful servo & y-harness on a AM RX
Hi guys, I'm fairly new and have a question about upgrading my electrics on a RTR Savage X. I have a ACE DS 1015 servo that I want to use for steering. The instructions say to use a Y-harness to connect it to the AM RX so that it by-passes the BEC. Alright, do I need to do this? if I do it were do I plug the y-harness into on the RX, the BATT spot or the steering servo spot? any suggestions. I have a 6V hump pack plugged into a switch harness which is plugged into the Batt spot on the RX right now.
Thanks
Thanks

No, you don't need to use a Y harness. As long as the servo plug will fit into your rx that's all you'll need to do.
The BEC is for when you run the rx in an electric powered rc and doesn't pertain to your Savage.

I thought it had to do with the servo pulling more current than the RX was designed for? I think I know what you are talking about(I'm not too up on EP specifics), but it's also recommended when using a strong servo with a cheap radio setup.

Thanks for the reponses. I called Ace Hobby and the tech guy told me not to worry about it in a nitro truck. He says its more for electrics like DaveG55 said. I also checked the voltage with a multi-meter at each connection at the RX the servos are all pulling the same power at any plug spot on the RX.
Thanks
