Default Savage X SS worth it?

Well i've decided on getting a savage for my first nitro rc vehicle. But im stuck deciding between the X SS or the RTR X. Is the XSS worth getting over the X? I would like to build the kit, but is building the kit a good idea for my first nitro? Also, would this ( [link=http://cgi.ebay.com/Losi-Mini-LST-27mHz-FM-Synthesized-Modular-Radio-System_W0QQitemZ330067591180QQihZ014QQcategoryZ340 63QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem]2 Channel FM Radio[/link] ) work as a TEMPERARY radio. Im just going to be using this because i dont have enough money to buy a nice spektrum radio, and my birthday is in 25 days, and im asking for the dx2. But will this work as a temperary radio, i also have a 2 channel AM radio, so would either of these work? Thanks a lot.

You all ways end up better starting with a kit. If you buy a RTR and up grade it to what you would from a kit you will have more in it then starting with the kit. The kits come with a lot of hop ups right out of the box. All so the K 4.6 is a bigger and better engine then the 4.1. Yes either of those radios should work.

That Losi radio will work fine. Even an am radio with a 2 channle receiver will work for now. But, the DX2 is in your best intrest. I would personally go with the SS because the X's electronics suck bad. Plus you get all the drivetrain upgrades, steel spur, and the satisfaction of putting it together yourself.

Get your Savage let me know and you will have to come to Macon to race. If nothing else we can get together and do some bashing. I have a 4.6SS set up for racing as well as I have a Hyper 8 buggy and HPI MT I race. Have others but do not race them. If I can help let me know.

The x ss is a kit and the savage x isnt. I have a savage x and i like it alot. If u dont want to mess with the kit the savage x is the way to go.

But you all ways end up with a much better vehicle starting with a kit! MANY up grades right out of the box and you can get a good radio and servos which on a RTR are poor.

One other thing HPI has very good instructions and building it is not a big deal if you have any mechanical ability at all. You all so learn a lot from just building it so when you do need to do a repair or maintenance you are all ready familiar with it.

Quick question, does the X SS come with aluminum clutch shoes?

No it doesn't - still running the stock shoes on my XSS, seem to be fine. I had about 3litres through it so far...

the X SS is the way to go. When I bought my X RTR a while back (Before the X SS) I dropped $450 on the truck, and a pile of money on other stuff, just to get it to *almost* X SS specs...

Mach 427-$130
dual disks-$15
Pro-Line bowties - $55
other miscellaneous stuff-$lots

and it still didn't have the aluminum diff cases, the hardened drivetrain bits and pieces, or the other nifty X features.

get the X SS...you won't regret it. it's more cash in the initial investment, but less cash chucked at parts in the long run.

Hey 46u - whats up with the MT racing? I haven't been to a r/c track (or owned a r/c car/truck) in probably 9 or 10 years :O
Are there classes for these things? I just bought a 4.6 SS a few days ago - this thing is rediculous LOL.

I went to school at Mercer (for a while... hehe)
