RE: engine options
Losi, if you're getting into sanctioned racing, you'll want to capi t at a .28ci engine.
the STS .28 is a great engine, good power, reliable, just overall great. you can find it at www.stsmicroengines.com (that site is owned by TopSpeedToys, btw)
also the Mach 28 is alright, it's more forgiving during breakin
i can't think of any other budget engines i'd recommend in the .28 ci region. good luck though!!

RE: engine options
funny thing here in Canda at our Winter nationals they are allowing up 32 sized engines in MT....so there may be a trend to allow bigger mills in the MT's....
if thats the case then the STS 30 is a very strong runner and good on fuel
as well the Picco 28 is a total ripper of an engine
Both these mills require a proper break in to run correctly.

LRP Z.28R spec 3
They are very easy to tune and very reliable. It's also got an assload of power, and it will easily hang with any other stock engine on the track. If you take advantage of Tower Hobbies' $30 off deal, you can get the thing for like $140.

RE: engine options
I raced all last summer with my STS .28. It performed flawlessly all season. A few of the guys at the track had Axial .28's and they didn't seem to have many problems with that engine either. For the price though, you can't beat the STS engines.

By "stock" I mean unmodified, not the stock engines that came in the truck [&:]....
Enough power to get the job done, easy to tune, easy to run, and reliable... those are the qualities that you want to look for in an engine. Make sure any recommendations you get are also accompanied with some info about those aspects of the engine, not just the power output. You can take a high dollar/high power Novarossi or RB and not be any faster than anything else out there if you don't know how to handle and tune it.

RE: engine options
i had the sts and i curently have the axial. the axial has alot of low end torque, i mean alot, but the top end is less than the sts, but the sts had not as much low end as the axial. what i like about the axial is that since it has so ,uch low wned that you can put tall gearing on it, like 17/47 adn it will have wicked top end because you can sacrafice low end cuz it has so much. i would get the axial. i had expeireince with both. also the axial isn't even that much more

RE: engine options
17/47 with a torque monster motor? Crap I was running 18/47 with my Mach 427 and it'd still pull the front wheels off the ground...that Axial must be a dog

RE: engine options
well i dont want the truck to be pulling wheelies because i want this to be a race savage and we wont be having a huge track with big straights so a low end engine would be perfect , what is a good pipe to run on the axial . 28 ?

ya but i want soemthing with good power for more of a medium length track

the STS 30 is too much motor IMO, it will be wheelying all over the place ...fast as hell, but maybe hard to control
the STS 28 with the new STS tuned pipe for savage may be a great combo, it will have a powerband very well suited to racing, as well this motor has very good build construction.
