i have the engine but no pics yet. they claim over 3.5 hp and say in the break in procedure at sts micro engines that they can hit 40,000 rpms. its wicked fast.

Default RE: savage engine THREAD..!!!!

Hey guys, I have just recently purchased a used Savage SS with the S-25 engine installed. The engine is almost new with very little run time on it but I am borded with it already. I thought of sending this engine to EB MODS to get it ported and polished but I am not sure it will be worth it.

I am looking for any info on an engine that is a good match for the Savage. I would like something with more top end speed and something that will get the noise pointed skyward when heavy on the throttle. Also I am not looking to break the bank, I am trying to keep it under $150 for a new engine. I looked into the HPI 4.6 but I know there are better engines out there for the price of the HPI engine. Please any information is appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time.

Joebaby, don't waste your money modding a used HPI .25 engine. The Axial .28 is the same thing as the HPI K4.6, but you can get it from Tower Hobbies for about $120.

Joebaby35 go with either the STS 28 or STS 30 you will not be disappointed and you can get either with the Roto starter plate all ready on it. Or you can get it with the pull starter. $120 to $140.
http://www.stsmicroengines.com/

I have a K4.6 in my Savage but have a new STS 28 to put in it. The only reason I did not get the 30 is to keep it race legal. I all so run a STS D21B in my buggy and have well over 2 gallons in it and like it so much is why I go the 28 for my Savage.

Thanks Guys for the quick response.

I was looking at the Axial .28 engine because it is priced right. As for the STS engines I heard good things about them and I had a .12 STS racing engine installed in my NTC3 and MAN WAS THAT ENGINE A BEAST and that was a old STS engine for the 90's I think. That was the only STS engine I ever had and I was not disappointed.

i'v had both, the sts seems to have more top end and the axial seems to have more low end. i liike the axial cuz you can gear it up and loose some of tht low end for the top end, i'm running 17/47 ans still pops wheelie like no tomarow, and there the same price. the axial is easier to tune then the sts though. and they both hold a good tune
