STS D30M [Short vids 1 NEW video]

RE: STS D30M
There are two ways to tell. 1. The pinch on the Rev 2 is extremely tight, like I mean if you try to crank it without a plug and lubrication its still damn hard to. The Rev 1 cranks over very easily and its really loose. I think its even more loose than my .18 Sirio but people say they keep running like animals for gallons despite the loose pinch. The benefits of Rev 1 are an easier break in (not shorter but it runs cooler) and it overall runs cooler. 2. I believe the induction port is larger than Rev 1 but I think I'm wrong on that one. I know that one of the ports is definitely bigger Tom.

RE: STS D30M
Do not have the STS 30 yet as it is not race legal but yes big difference in the pinch! I hope to one-day get the 30 to play with but now I am running the STS 28 to keep it with in sanction rules. I all so have two STS D21B one stock and one RBmods that I run in my buggy that I race a lot more then my Savage.
When and where did you buy it? I know STS Micro Engines since January has only sold the Rev 2.

RE: STS D30M
This thing is so tight at the pinch its hard to imagine it will even run.
No plug in at all Im scared to pull hard enough to turn it over.
Pulls WAY harder then the other .32's Ive had.

RE: STS D30M
I was over at INTEGRA's house one day and supertib was there, wow let me tell you. The pinch on the Rev 2's is so tight they could turn the motor over even after it had a gallon and a half through it. They had to take a friggin' wrench to the flywheel just to get it to turn over.

RE: STS D30M
Well obviously rev 2 is better...but the question at hand is: How can you tell the difference between rev 1 and rev 2?
Thanks for the replies

Externally without turning the flywheel and taking it apart to look at the innard? There is no way to tell. You have to turn the flywheel to feel how hard teh pimch is or disassemble it to look at the sleeve.

RE: STS D30M
Watch out, as there are some selling the Rev 1 cheaper to clear out there stock so if you go to buy one make sure you know what you are getting. I know on my STS D21B I had to loosen the glow plug on it till after I had over 3 gallons on it to get it to turn over with the starter box do to compression and pinch!

RE: STS D30M
Well I got the engine installed today...Ran 6 tanks through it using the heat cycle method...and less then 1/2 throttle.
The pinch is still very very tight.
It died 1 time from being to rich..starts on the 1st or 2nd pull using an OS 8 plug and 30% blue thunder.
It seems like this engine is going to rip...I'll keep everyone updated as to the progress.

RE: STS D30M
OS is not the correct plug to run as OS plugs are shorter then others. STS takes a standard long not s short OS. Hope you are running the race blend Blue Thunder not the sports blend.

White lightning eh?
Never heard of that...STS dont recomend anything that I can see.
Is that the best for my engine?

White Lightning's a great fuel...I run it whenever I can find it (i've still got an unused gallon in my room ). it, o'donnell's race blend, or sidewinder's race blend (i think that's what 46u runs?)

RE: STS D30M
Pit row has no white lightning..well they had 1 gallon left, but it looked OLD ..very old,and the owner said he wasnt sure if they could get more...SO I went with the blue thunder race blend.....
Either that or Odonnels, and I already know I dont like that stuff.
Thanks for the tips

RE: STS D30M
Ran another 1/4 gallon out ,so now im at or past the 1 gallon mark.
I started to lean it ,and get the temps up around 220-230.
Still tight at the pinch...but nothing like it was.
Finally got a 2nd gear shift.Im using road rage tires on pavement.when it shifted to 2nd the entire truck broke loose and fish tailed out..sending me 45* to the right.Luckily there was only a ditch there.
I have all 4 tires locked solid at the diff is why it tailed out..otherwise 1 tire would have balloon'd.
Ill run another 1/2 gallon through it before I lean it anymore.
Now running Blue Thunder Race blend 30% ,and a MC8 plug.

RE: STS D30M
I am not using the STS pipe.
I bought the Collari...everyone said it NEEDED a tuned pipe, but after I got it ,it was no different.
So with that in mind ,I am not running the STS tuned pipe.
I tried the Collari pipe it made it alot quieter, but slower.
I tried 2 other pipes, and the best 1 being the ribbed hpi pipe.
YES its LOUD!
I cant see the sts pipe being different from the Collari pipe...theres nothing to them.
Am I wrong again?
lol
