HPI dual disc problem
well i have been experiencing some problems with my HPI DD.
after both of the pads tore up and move to the side, i decided to go metal to metal.
I used total of 4 calipers, and it worked out great for the first two tanks, after that, it just kinda gradually decreasing. why is this? i checked that the screws are still intact, since i put some CA on the screw holes.
some help please
thanks

because the metal is probably polishing itself (getting smooth) b/c of the heat and metal to metal contact. The smoother the surfaces are, the lower the bpower. Try flipping all the calipers as a temporary fix.

RE: HPI dual disc problem
Personally, I use and like the way the single brake system works.
I had the Dual brakes for a while and had the same issues you had but the single systems works much better for me.
Less wear, less parts, easier to control and easier on the diff along with longer life and cheaper price if ever I need to replace it.
So good that my buddies switched as well.

RE: HPI dual disc problem
so now, i am still deciding between going back to stock brakes of purchase another DD, since i made the mistake of going metal to metal since my first day.
How long usually HPI DD last? i mean before the metal and the pads worn down. I am planning to do some jumping session today, but got canceled because my brakes were not working fine, thus no control over the savage on mid air.
thanks guys

Well Stablock has tried it, as have a few others.
That is an old thread but that guy Stablock seems to know a thing
or two about the savage.

Yup, those are the ones. Just make sure you use the single brake hub though. The dual disc brake hub is small.

Well I know the single brake system gets better as it wears down.
The best thing about it is no matter how strong you have the brake piston as it engages the caliper, it will stop the savage from full speed very gradually.
Not like a sudden STOP, Flip-OVER, brake locking way...

RE: HPI dual disc problem
Hey guys,
i just finished installing by stock brake back. I also followed the direction on the link above, to put silicone in the holes. And all i can say is WOW. i mean, i cant do stoppies and forward flip and all. But, the stock brake provides enough power to make the truck stop.
I am impressed, the only mistakes i did was i removed my fuel line and replaced that with the original spring. But tomorrow, i'll put the fuel line back, and it should be able to do better.
I love this mod, and also, i fixed my stripped tranny hole by putting a little bit of zip tie in the hole, it holds the screw like crazy, no super glue needed
thanks everyone[8D][8D]

RE: HPI dual disc problem
You know, I am having a terrible experience with my DD brakes as well.
When I had them installed on my first savage 25 a year ago they worked awesome.
But on my 4.6 they shredded my pads and have all or nothing lockup (flipping with out the body kinda aggravation)
The hobby store replaced the pads and it is alot better but still when it coasts sometimes it kinda locks up coming to stop...
I suspect the discs have a rough edge from the stamping process causing this irregular braking...digging the pad material kinda action...
Anyone have info on the matter???

When I first got the XSS, the brakes was awesome, like totally controllable.
But as it wore down it got progressive worst, until at one point, it was either on (flip the truck) or off (straight into a tree)
Then at one stage, it totally gone, took out the brakes, and one of the disc was like concave shape with edges all gone
and the other is like massive lip on it, with the corresponding damage on the pad as well.
Looking at it, it looks like one side of the post move but not the other, and somehow the pad got side way as well.
Am following bambam's suggestion and am go for the one disc setup, I think it is a case of "KISS"
Besides it is much cheaper with single disc, so hopefully that would work out better.
