I'm pissed off
I just bought a 3-piece aluminum clutch for my savage x. I stripped another spur gear [:@]. I Made sure that the mesh was setup right and everything. I'm about ready to sell the darn thing and get a new set of irons, because my golf game is the only thing that's going any where, because my savage keeps stripping spur gears. WHat do you guys think i should do?
by the way it was my Christmas gift, i spent all Christmas day trying to get it to start, it Finally started to work a week later after my LHS helped me out
worst Christmas ever

$20?... i'll def give you $25, maybe $30. Ive had my savage for 3 gallons and my spur gear is doing great. just need to make sure the mesh is set right and then your CB isnt heating up and melting the spur gear

Get a steel spur.
I could never get a mesh right or had to much power or both.
A steel spur and steel CB solved my woes.
Dont worry about some of the guys that drive their savage to work, and never break anything.
Stuff breaks..usually a fix for it .
A steel spur /CB will cost ya $40.00 max

I've had the same spur since I got it...about 2 gallons. But, I do know that stripping spurs is a common problem. I'd say you should keep the Savage. I assume you were using the paper to trick to make sure the spur was set up correctly? Nonetheless, if you make sure every few tanks that the gearing is still the same mesh, it will never melt or strip, as long as it's correctly meshed. I don't think you even need a steel one. I've bashed mine harder than most of the videos on BYT...so I doubt the plastic spur is at fault.

I've had the same spur gear on my Savage X 4.1 since it came out of the box (probably three gallons ago), and I haven't had a single issue. I also don't see what the big deal is against the dual disc slipper clutch; I've never had a problem with mine.

Switch to the old-style Savage spur, OR the new style steel spur. And yeah, it takes a bit of patience, which I don't always have either...

Bashers should be using steel spurs. Contrary to popular belief, bashing with a powerful BB is much more abusive on a spur than racing is. Think about it-racing is a timed, controlled environment that is pretty much orchestrated in terms of what a racer is to do or not to do. Bashing is b@lls to the wall, make it up as you go, keep filling the tank until the gallon empties, no time limit, random mahem. So tell me again how a plastic spur is superior to steel in that situation? I'll take steel over plastic any day, proper meshing is not even a factor in that decision-overall strength is.[8D]

If you bash in the sand at all you will deffinately see why you would want to use plastic spur. With steel to steel the little grains of sand eat up the spur and the clutch bell gears fast, steel to plastic the spur gets a little worn but its only 4 bucks or so to replace. just my 2 cents.

RE: I'm pissed off
i bash in dusts and sands with steel spur for over 2 gallons with no problems whatsoever.
i did however stripped my steel CB cause of the darn brass spacer worn out and push the CB out.

Will partner I bashed my Savage long before I ever raced it. Matter of fact I have more time on it bashing then racing. I have not raced it in about 10 months since I started racing my buggy and have only bashed it so I have experience both bashing and racing not like some. .
