I bought a SavageX from a person and how can I tell if I got the 4.6 or the 4.1?

what kind is it, the x or the xss. if it is the x then look for a single disk break, also the body shell should say clearly what kind of engine it has, granted it is not an aftermarket. if it is the x 4.6 then look for dual disc breaks, good luck

Don't know about the trucks but the 4.1 and the K4.6 have some distinct differences, look at the pictures here;

the sav 3.5 europe edition didnt come out until after the S25, it was like a special edition back to the past kinda truck, and the limited edition S25 came before the ATV S25

so since this savagex has a single disc brake that makes it not the 4.6 model? is there any way to distinguish between the 4.6 motor and the 4.1 since they look exactly the same?

If it is a 4.6 engine it seems to be the old version judging by the heatsink. The 4.6 will say so on the block in the black area on the engine or it will say 4.1 or 28 or 25 if it is indeed the older engine. But that pic is of a 4.1 savy x.

it's had to tell which motor.the body is from a x f4.1
the black block and heatsink and air filter all seem to be parts from different engine's.
the air filter from an older s-25.
the black block from an s-25 or a k4.6ho

I think it is either a 4.1 or an S-25, look at a couple of things, the heat sink does not have the notches that the 4.6 has, the rims and tires are the standard savage x ones, the body is a standard sav x, not saying it is not a 4.6 but imho it looks like a 25

It's a savage with the old bad X TVPs
look at the small X..

to bad about the TVPs they break really easy..

It's really hard to tell from the photos of your truck but I think you've got the f4.6. Compare it to the first one on the list python posted. Black case, round purple head with no notches, etc. I think it's the best match from what I can see.

I believe HPI will still replace those with the newer reinforced "X"s of the revised X-TVPs. I have yet to send my old er X-TVPs in. [8D]

so after close examination and since the motor isnt black its silver with just HPI written on it, ive decided that this must be a savagex 4.1. now the question is whether or not this $280.00 purchase was worth it... is the savage 4.6 that much better than the 4.1? engine that much faster? what should I do you guys?

that would depend on the upgrade's and extras that come with it.
3spd tranny?
hd drivetrain?
etc/etc.
i did read updated controller(new radio system)what brand/model. that would be a plus if a spektrum unit.

i've had both.the f4.6 will blow the f4.1 away big time.
lots of power no doubt.
plus the new x f4.6 you get a bunch of upgrades done to it already out of the box.

except that my engine is silver and not black and if you look at the heatsink through the middle it arcs instead of v's.

so Im thinking about changing out the motor to either a k4.6 or k4.6HO or Axial .28 or XTM 457 .28 which do you guys think I should pick up?
