RE: breaking system
a little more info there cleek.
is it just rolling when u press the brake, or is it, taking along time, what?
it could be how far the bar is into the brake shaft, or it could be my problem the screws are backing out of the brake housing.

RE: breaking system
which set of brakes are on your's?
there's 3 x's out there and all come with different brake's.
you just have to decide which set you like better.
check your pads.if they haven't wornout or fallen off.
screw's come loose?
then check the adjustment and servo.

RE: breaking system
I have the dual disc CF setup and loving it. You need to adjust it to suit you but I wouldn't set the brake to instantaneous stop. Mine set to roll for a few feet to stop. IMO this will prevent stress in drive train.

RE: breaking system
Are you talking about the two screws that hold the brakes on. There one on one side that you can see pretty easly and the one on the other side is harder to see. What the best way to get to them without having to take a bunch of stuff off.

take the tank out and the top one is there.
on the bottom one i use just a 1/4 philp's bit and vise grips on the bit to lossen/tighten.

RE: breaking system
Thanks, thats goota be my problem it had to come to loose from the factory. I made some other adjments today and was gonna try and test them out but it started raining so I had to go in. What would be the best way to do it tighting them both down then untighting them both the same amount until I get what I want. Also how good do I want the brakes to work, I don't want to have them so tight that there going to wear out or break something else. But I would like to stop sooner then about 5 sec's after I hit the brakes.

your gonna laugh.
but i adjust them. then test it on the kitchen floor.not running of course. just push/roll it then apply the brakes till i'm happy with the stopping.

RE: breaking system
I was talking about the one in the drive cup, that holds it to the shaft, the cup the brakes go over? its on little set screw.
now for the two, i use a L driver, and for the top one, i go right thru the shock tower with a long Phip's heads screw driver, nothing has to come off, just go straight in.
L driver

RE: breaking system
Here is a pic of my Revo pads I am going to install on one of my Savages. I intend to use the larger Traxxas 42mm steel discs on the forward output shaft and the HB vented on the rear. I still am trying to choose an actuating device to close the Revo pads onto the discs; I havent yet decided which device would be easier for the average RC fan to make.

RE: breaking system
i wonder if just mounting another rear case, but for the front,, so u can have all wheel disk brakes? just drill another hole in the chassis for the mounting slot.

RE: breaking system
Yep, the HPI brake system suck no matter what. The discs are too small, I would recommend to HPI that they go at least 42mm diameter discs. Also, only to have a brake set on the rear tranny output shaft is woefully inadaquate. HPI needs to also put a brake set on the forward tranny output shaft as well.
It does not matter if the Savage has single disc, dual disc, or even the new orange CF dual discs, the single brake set small diameter disc concept sucks and is insufficient for the heavy Savage. That one brake set on the rear output shaft might cause the Savege to flip forward when prestine and brand new, but it does not take long before that brake set is overwhelmed and fades. The Savage severly needs a forward output shaft bake set as well to cut the braking load in half.
A heavy Savage trucking along at 30+MPH has so much kinetic energy that the puny single brake set must do a tremendous amount work to stop the truck. Kinetic energy being converted into heat through only one brake set (even if that brake set is a dual disc) is lunacy, those parts will see a tremedous amount of heat through them, the result is very fast fading of the pads, fraying of the CF discs, or both. By putting on a forward disc set on the front of the tranny, the heat load will be cut in half between the two brake sets, thus doubling the life of the braking system before a rebuild is in order.

Funny HPI made the x series lighter easyer to work on and a little bit faster than the older savvys but didnt fix the major problems it had with braking and mid tank lean and throtle linkages.

You cant make the disks any larger or they will hit the clutchbell.
