For price, power, and easy-to-find parts, it's hard to beat the Axial .28 Spec1s. Under $125.

Default RE: Engine upgrade?

what about and engine with enough grunt to run with 40serries moabs? i'm currently runing the k46 with an extended chasis and the huge moabs seems to require a little more torque to get the truck moving.

i'd like to keep it around 150$ any sugestions?

First off your best bet for getting a engine for a decent price is to look in ebay.

This engine will do more then you want.

If you have a ebay account I would bid on this engine. You should be able to get it for around 140$ shipped. The SH .28 p6 engine is a killer engine for the price. You can't go wrong with it.

I ordered the axial .28 spec 1 for $115 CDN on ebay last week. Can't wait for it to get here. I've got the Savage25 with 3spd.

The axial spec 1 .28 is on the same lines of performance as the factory .28.

are you saying the Axial .28 Spec 1S is equivalent to the f4.6 or k4.6?

Its the exact same engine, just sold under a different brand. For some strange reason the axial puts out a little more power, or so people say.

My vote is for the LRP Z.28 Spec 3. Just put mine in yesterday and got two tanks through it today. It was easy to start the first time (after warming it up with a hair dryer) and idled great. On the second tank I started blipping the throttle a little and it was lifting the front wheels already.

I have read some pretty sad stories about people buying the Axial and having nothing but trouble with them. The LRP seems to get better reviews here and on other RC forums.

I'd love to go Picco, or Novarossi, or RB, but, I already bought a Axial .28, I'll bash this one for a few, then put it in another savvy when I build one for the wife so I can have a big beefy motor

so not the HO version that comes in the X SS kit but the regular 4.6 that comes in the X 4.6 RTR? (and being the case, is it still a decent engine or no, I'm guessing it's still a fairly noticable upgrade from the S25 (non-ported)

The HO comes with the hellfire only, the k4.6 with the XSS and the f4.6 with the X RTR.

What do you mean by "bigger savage"? The Picco .28 and LRP .28 are definitely more powerful than either the K4.6 or F4.6 that come with the Savage from HPI, I suspect you'll be pleasantly surprised. There's much more to the power factor than mere displacement!

ahh, thanks for the clarification, I thought that I'd heard the HO was in one of the Savage kits, but, oh well, regardless, the axial's going to be a good upgrade for playing around over the S25 that I'm fighting with right?
