I think your brother might be experiencing the sickness known as "Shelf Queenism".
If you notice a trend of a lot of aluminum parts being added, get him help immediately.

You can put the cone in the exhaust pipe (if you are using the stock composite pipe) to quieten his ride up a bit. As for messing it up, I was very scared of doing that too (when I first got my Savage and I was 12 too - 13 now), but I slowly built up more self-confidence and ended up taking my Savage completely apart a few times to clean it. I learnt a lot by doing that, and my Savage would always look nice and shiny at the end (very rewarding). Then I bought an X SS (which is a kit), and built that up by myself, which was almost as fun as actually driving it!

Im 12 going on to 13,and has a smartech, was scared of the noise, now im almost 13 and had my savage x ss bought off ebay used for about 6 months now and only got about one litre out of it because of old problems.Im not not scared of it getting dirty, sometimes still a bit scared of the noise when i first start it, but very scared of it breaking by me ripping the pullstart to hard or bad tuning il think i reck everything, but then i think wow who cares what else can i do in my life,so i just try to start it up and all to the best of my ability.

Another problem could also be the monetary value of his truck. For example, when he starts it, he knows in his head that if he breaks the pullstart, he will have to buy a new one and parts are extremely expensive. That might make him be scared to use it "properly", since he would have to replace the broken parts himself.

Its a great sound. You learn to love it and the smell.. oh the smell. You'll really start to notice the smell every where. Thats why I dicided to get into this hobby. Coming from 2 stroke dirtbikes I was looking for something to share with my son and not get hurt. you still get the smell, the sreaming engine that makes your heart pump and the air that we love. but if you mess up you dont get hurt....LOVE it... Even working on tunning and painting is alot like my passion for dirtbikes but now I think I'm going to be more addicted to my savvy. To many wrecks over the years body hurts to much for me to keep riding and dont want my son to feel like I do when he's my age.
But he's not turned over yet. Bikes are all hes know since he came into the world.
