i'm still thinking about the 2 turns.
i've got 3 jugs on my f4.6 and it's only 1/2-3/4 turn-lean.[X(]

Yea, I would worry about that too. Are you seeing any smoke from the exhaust. What are you judging the leanness on? Two full turns in sounds like a lot. What are your temps?

there is alot of smoke coming from it still, gas is spitting from the exhaust a little bit also. I don't have a temp gun but I use the pinch and spit test and the temp seems fine. It also still sounds blubbery like it's running rich, and shutting off when it is first started and i give it the least bit of throttle.

How does it run at full throttle? If it gets up to high rpm without bogging you are probably fine on the HSN. I would try leaning the LSN a little now. What is the air temperature like in your part of FL right now?

it was a little hesitant when WOT, like it wanted to stall. but once it got going it ran perfect. it was pretty a pretty cool day today also.

Sound like it may be a little lean if it acted like it wanted to die at WOT. Back off the HSN 1/16 at a time till it runs smooth at WOT.

hey all, I was out running my Savage 4.6 today and just finished off my 1st gallon of fuel with no problems. you know how they say "if its too good to be true then it usually is" well today my truck ran like you wouldnt believe stronger and faster than ever!!! my friend says that even though its broke in that the engine will continue to build power for a little bit after break in..... this true? he says that it will peak out pretty soon so to still take it be very aware of temps and not to just take off after start up which I dont do anyway but please tell me this isnt a case of "2 good 2 be true"

Not sure about "too good to be true" but it is a pretty good thread "Hijack". This has nothing to do with jdm_k20's topic.

Well I bought a temp gun yesterday and I started keeping track of temps. The truck was running pretty awesome and the temps were decent too, 270 on the header and abot 220 on the block. The only thing was if i let it sit at idle too long it would bog down when I tried to take off. Still lots of smoke though.

It's time to fine tune it. Read this and get after it: http://www.*********.org/cars_eng-tuning.htm

The idleing then dying is normal, it's just loading up. Make sure you're not running an overly rich LSN and overly lean HSN. This can happen very easy. Recipe for disaster. How long does it idle before it wants to die? You said you did the pinch test, how long did it take to die?

When you are at idle is it cooling off? How fast is it cooling at idle with no throttle?

I have not messed with the lsn at all because the manual says not to. it never dies at idle, sometimes if i let it sit for a minute or too, it will die when i give it too much gas at take off. As far as i know i have it tuned just how I want it. the performance is great, temp is near perfect and there is plenty of smoke.

Well if it works for you it sounds good. What fuel are you running? The reason I asked is smoke can be misleading. Oil content plays a big role in the smoking facter! more oil more smoke.

I'm running 20% fuel. Today I was running and when I run it at a certain RPM, it will sound like it's sputtering when comming down from high idle, also if I run it at a constant speed at a certain RPM, it will sputter. Does that mean it's too rich? Also, when is it supposed to shift gears?

When you say sputter...........Is it like a (here we go) nang, nang, nang, sound? Almost like a down shifting or getting hung up on idle? If so I would say you're too lean. A WOT pass clears the carb then letting off the gas you are starving it for fuel! Help me out guys am I right?
