The more I look at the XL, the more I like it. I wonder what aftermarket bodies will fit this thing though?
My savage is extended 40mm and the Proline LST size bodies fit very well, dont think it would be a big issue, I cant see the big deal about the body anyway, the stock bodies dont last that long, to flimsy, once it is toast you can invest in a nice Proline shell

If you added up all the mods most of us have done to ours the price is pretty good, if you add things like larger engine, extended tvp's etc it soon starts to add up

The question is would you buy the Savage XL if you didn't already have a savy.... I'd say yes for sure imagine 5.9 for a newbe. I had to start with the S25... boy that was sad.

Whoa.. New Rumor - looks like HPI is gonna offer a dual-engine option.. Would explain all that space behind the stock engine for fitting two headers...

Check it out -here's the engine:

see thats what I meant before, I`m a newbe to the nitro rc world, but I have owned plenty of electrics. If I did`nt own a savy already then I would go 4 the 5.9 because it`s one baby step up from the 4.6 rtr, but hpi needs a to rethink thier truck kinda like they did with the hell fire. The hell fire is and incredible monster truck not truggy. it sits nice and low, has good speed, great engine and setup, and it still allows the consumer to customize because lets face it; one company cannot satisfy every single individuals needs, but they can provide options, but options that fit different terrains and products for the backyard basher and or the seriouse racer. I think the dudes down at hpi need to take a look at an rcu forum. Why did they take so long to come up with something like the 5.9, I mean I did`nt own nitros at the time but it took them from the s25-sx4.6 to now release the 5.9. Why not do it to begin with, all they do is add slitely bulkier parts and a bigger engine. It is going to get to the point when hpi fans are going to get tired of buying one step up trucks and go look for something on the cutting edge. Like i said I love my savage, its tough, fast, and does a great job at anything you throw at it, but HPI is getting a bit abusive with the savage line of trucks. my other 2 cents.[8D]

If you folks would actually look at the information out there, you wouldn't sound like a bunch of noobs. The upgraded uprights are a new piece designed specifically for the XL. Just because you found them on your standard X trucks doesn't mean HPI is lying. HPI took the newer design and applied it to the remaining trucks in the series. If you bought a standard Savage recently, you lucked out and got the new part.

As for what you are calling "extenders", if you are referring to the purple aluminum pieces, you're not looking closely enough. The aluminum pieces are cylinders that slide over the lengthened one piece outdrives. The sole function for these cylinders is to support the backsides of the drive hexes when the wheel nuts are tightended. This reduces the possibility of the hexes cracking under high side loads. I know that longer arms would have been preferred, but the Savage already has a ton of suspension travel, and the longer outdrives keeps these updates backwards compatible.

Done preaching, you can resume jumping to conclusions.

I would buy the XL if only it looked more aggressive and 'cooler'. The pudgy tire design and body do not do it justice. I've had a 25 RTR and currently have a 4.6 SS with 3 speed and wheelie bar and love the classic monster truck aggressive looks. Customers want and expect both performance and looks. Come on HPI you can do it!

Licensing/legal issues prevent that. If HPI wanted to pay to get true 1:1 looking bodies, etc, they'd likely have to raise the prices of the truck to offset the licensing fees charged by Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Gravedigger, BigFoot, MaxD, etc, etc, etc. Since guys are already complaining about the high price of the new truck, I don't think HPI would be willing to toss another $10-$20 onto the price of the truck.[8D]

Yeah, I too would love to see an SS version.
In due time I suppose, but what else could they possibly put on it? Everything is already on the RTR.[&:]

What's wrong with the S25? I still have mine and it will hang with any comparably modded Savage X series. I actually prefer the pre-X Savages.
