Default Differential leak

Im using 5,000 weight diff lube in both my Sav X 4.6 diffs. Since its the 4.6 RTR, it comes with the alloy diffs. After about 1/2 a gallon of use, both diffs are more than 1/2 empty. And after about a gallon, they are completely empty. Is this normal? Will it help replacing the o-rings? And also, will getting heavier weight diff lube such as 30,000 weight or 50,000 weight make it harder for the fluid to escape? thanks.

Both cases, alloy or plastic should have a gasket. xXxCellARatOr, I had the same issues that you are talking about. One of the main things I notice is how "hard" the HPI o-rings are. I don't think that they create the best positive seal. I have since been using the following products and have not had any issues since:

O-rings - Kyosho part # ORG06

Gaskets - Mugen Seiki part # CO257

The screw holes on the mugen gasket do not line up perfectly, but they work great. You can get both items through A-main hobbies.

Hope that helps and happy bashing,

D.I.

The heavier silicon will def leak less. I did change the o-rigs before. It does help a little I add a little high temp grease to the o-rings when installing. I think that helps with the seal a little as well.

Yeah im gonna get new o-rings and definitely heavier oil. Im getting sick and tired of having to open them up so often, and i especially hate the fact that im wearing out the threads by doing so. Im thinking of going with 50 000 all around. What do u guys think? hows that gonna change my truck from 5000. Or would that be a little too much? should i go with 30 000 instead? thanks.

I run 50k in the front and 30k in the rear in my basher. I run 3k in the rear and 5k in the front on my racer.

And how does ur racer feel compared to the basher? And at what kind of speeds are these differences most noticable at? my truck is completely stock, so i probably wont be turning too fast anyways, or ill end up flipping over, so i dont think it would matter if i lost a bit of steering with the heaver fluid.
