Default What glow plug for F4.6 ?

Hello
I ordered a Savage 4.6 RTR and was going to order some spare glow plugs for it but i noticed it takes R5 cold plugs. Is this right? Or should i go with some thing differnt. I am planning on running Traxxas 20% nitro as i have a gallon and a half of it left over from my Revo. I also ordered an HPI polished pipe for it already also.

Thanks
E3

I have used McCoy #8, McCoy #9, and McCoy #59 and which have worked well. My favorite however is the McCoy #8.

Yep MC 8 here also. Dont use a cold plug or it will be a PITA to keep a good idle.

Yes, Traxxas fuel is garbage. It kills one way bearings. Traxxas fuel has a very high oil content.

hi folks,

iam a beginner and wanted as ask something about glowplugs.

is it necessary to use hot plugs when its cold outside and vice versa? most people are suggesting the MC no. 8 plug

how is the OS no. 8? is there any difference?

also, one i have 2 diff types of glowplugs, how to test and find out which ones better currently?

I run my MC#8 plugs from 34*C to -15*C

Just richen your tune slightly for colder tempuratures and you will be fine.
A common mistake is to lean the engine for colder temps to keep your heat up, but you will find that richening in colder temps will run alot better.

MC#59 is a great plug for breaking in an engine, but once its broken in the plug is almost too hot for a good performance tune.

The MC8 plug will work in that application also. Its a good plug for the size of engine, and the RPM range. just tune the engine accordingly and you will be fine. even at 45C (105F)

hi guys,

New to the forums here, this is a great place to get reat info. I just bought my first Savage, should be here tuesday. This will be my first HPI, i mostly ran traxxas.
Couple questions?
whats the best fuel to get for the savage? And the glow plugs? It sounds like i should break her in with the mc59 and then switch to the #8 plug for everyday running?

i kinda of agree with the comment about traxxas fuel, i do have to tune my maxx alot. I dont really want to be tuning all day and not have fun with my savage.
i am getting the new 2.4 savage!! got a great deal on it at tower!!

Thanks for the replies
