Is this Orion V6 clutch fitted correctly, looks odd
I had a problem with the uprated clutch in my Savage a couple of years ago so bought an Orion V6 but had a fitting issue so sluing the whole thing in the back of the garage until I had time to look at it properly. Im now trying to get the thing to work but am about to make mods to the engine mounting plate to move the whole engine back to provide clearance for the clutch bell as it fouls on the flywheel. You can see how the clutch bell doesnt slip all the way down the clutch shoes. Anyone know if this is normal? Do I just mod the mount and move the engine back or is something wrong?

I would say you need a 1/8 style clutchbell on that clutch set up.....do the clutch shoes touch the inside front of the clutchbell? If so then you need a deeper clutchbell.....It may run fine like that but your clutch shoes are obviously going to wear unevenly and I don't know what that will do or cause.

I believe everything is there as it sould be.
Whats an 1/8th style clutch bell? I had to try a couple of bells before finding one that was a tight enough tolorence to the outer face of the clutch shoes so that the shoes would adjust up to bite the bell. The shoes sit some way into the bell but as you say, they will wear unevenly and wont be providing maximum performance. What bells are people running with these clutches? I dont want to go back to the original style set up as this clutch wasnt cheap but I dont like having to modify the engine mount and run a blatently incorrect set up with the V6 kit.

Can you measure the depth of your clutch bell? One of us can check it against what we use on the savage, and see if that might work better. And have you ran the motor with that filter, I have heard bad things about using k&n breathers as a filter.

K&N is very bad to use for a filter. It will trash your engine in no tinme. If you want a good filter use a Motor saver filter with pre filter or the stock savage X filter. The stock filters are pretty good. Ask anyone about the K&N filters and they will say no way!

Whats actually wrong with the K&Ns, do they not filter dust?
The clutch bell is 7/16ths deep but the fact that Im going to have to move the whole motor towards the back of the car so the clutch bell doesnt foul on the spur gear tells us that its the clutch forcing the bell forward thats the root of the problem. Why is it doing it is the question, is it normal?

By fouling on the spur, do you mean that it is rubbing against it? What is the thickness of your clutch shoes, and is the inner bearing seated correctly into the clutch bell?

I had a similar problem, because my collet nut that tightens the flywheel in place was the wrong type and it did not allow the clutchbell bearing on the inside of the clutchbell to seat further in. I used a different collet nut which helped a bit and then on top of that I used the little washers that come with alot of clutch shoes that sit through the flywheel 3 pins. The washers help push the clutch shoes further into the clutchbell.

That is how that clutch mounts it is right and you will have too mod the engine plate. I went though the same thing and after alot of searching found out that that is how they fit on a savage.

On a side note I wish people would answer the ??? only when they A read the ??? and B know what they are talking about. Some people are answering like this is a normal 3 shoe clutch. If you dont know want the part the guy is talking about dont give an answer. Instead of talking out your hole.

a 1/8th style clutchbell is deeper....same as they run on buggies/truggies...Thats the kind of clutch it is so it would make sense to use a clutchbell that actually fits and doesn't require modding of the engine mount.
