Killing glow plugs by stopping engine with exhaust.....
I usually stop my engine by plugging the exhaust pipe. But, I think I'm going to stop now. I can't count how many times I've had a dead plug, right after stopping the engine with this method (I have a meter on my ignitor that tells me if the plug is good or not) When I don't stop the engine with the exhaust, my plugs last for gallons and gallons. I know I can kill the engine by pinching the fuel line, but it's quite hard to get at with the body on. Two things that suck about this method is that I have to re-prime the engine a little bit to get her fired, and the fact it runs quite lean up until she shuts down. Maybe I'll buy the savage engine stop kit, and avoid this altogether. Anyone use it?

I put that in about a year ago and its still working well, just make sure you press the button hard when killing the engine, or it will melt down the plastic.

Usually, I just let the vehicle runn out of fuel, but when I have to stop it, I plug the exhaust. Never had a glow-plug fail from that myself, but it isn't a common thing I do.
Most glow-plug failures I've had were either during break-in or if I accidently ran things too lean. "Age" fo course also factors into it, but once the engine is broken in, I find they last a long time.

I know on my truck I would make sure it's out of fuel when I'm done with it so theres no nitro sitin on the glow plug eating it up.

I've never done the "snuff the stinger" engine killing method. I pinch the fuel line as close to the fuel inlet nipple as my fingers will allow. It kills the engine pretty quickly and hasn't seemed to hurt them any in the long term.
