ok guys i wanted to do a little survey to see how many of you guys are using what starting system, weather it might be losi's spin start, or tiger drive, or roto start, or even pull start.

Somebody voted before me, I voted pull start and had it at 50/50. I do have a rotostart on my STS. Both Piccos are pull starters. BB

I voted Pull start because I haven't rly had any luck from those roto starts.
Also because, if you have the engine tuned right, Fresh fuel and a good
glow plug, Than it will always start so easy with a pullstart - Much easier
than caring a Rotostart, or a drill around at the RC track.
Saying that though, The one thing i Hate About the savage is You Cant
use a starter box...

I use both the losi spin start and roto start. Both have been good although the losi spin start has less moving parts.

I'm using Hpi RotoStart, but will prolly go to the simpler less moving parts Losi (less to break) system. Oh also I'm using the HPI backplate outer housing with Ofna internal gears on the P3, it seems to be working fine.

I use the HPI Roto for the K Series engines. Probably not the best roto start, but certainly not the worst (the worst rotostart plate I have seen so far is the roto plate for the STS engines, the little gear is made of way too soft of material. As a matter of fact, I took the little gear from a Kingstar-Ntrostar BB21 and put that onmy STS D28M & D30M plates and never stripped that gear again).

I do not know if the Tigre drive is good or not, but it looks innovative: side or top driven starter.

As for pull starters, I absolutely hate pull starting for an engine that is not yet warmed up. Even preheated, an engine does take a min or 2 to become fully warmed up and will tend to stall, especially if the engine has a higher time profile.

I should add: I no longer use the HPI roto hand held unit, the gears inside of it are woefully too weak to stand up to starting engines .28ci or larger. Since I mount .28ci engines and bigger in my trucks, I now use a $26 Black & Decker drill with reverse to start all my engines. It has a torque control so that I can be sure to spare the engine if hydro-locked. Additionally, I find that turning 2000RPM to start the engine is sufficient. So, the rumor that an engine must turn 3500RPM or more to start is simply not true.

on the savage x 4.6 rtr can you use a house drill a 12volt, to start and take the bit from the included rotostart. because i dont have enough for battery and charger. Whihc wold you get mammoth, mgt 4.6se, or savagex 4.6(if you can you a regular drill)

RotoStart. Both my trucks are dune/beach machines, and sand = death for pullstarts because the sand gets into the pullstart where the cord retracts, and it prevents the recoil spring from doing its job. But regardless, it usually takes less than a second to start the trucks up, unlike some of the people that don't prime or something and are there looking like idiots while the engine is spinning and spinning and...
