LRP owners step up! Pipe shopping....
You guys with the LRP Z-28 engines; what are you doing for exhaust? I have the 053, 086 and STS 0702 pipes. What does everybody run on theirs? I think I even have an 063 pipe around here, but it is a bottom end pipe and I think the LRP has plenty of that. Thanks, BB

JP3 thats all you need. I have tried all kinds of pipes and the JP3 has outperformed all of them. The 086 pipe is pretty good also but the JP has better top end. I got the most rpm's out of the jp pipe.

I run a THS 8025 system on my LRP...It runs great, but it is the only pipe I've used on it. Not bad for $60 shipped...

Before getting my LRP, I read around a lot about which pipe to get, and a German dude said he'd tried them all(JP 1, 2, and 3, 053, and a few others..), and he swore the JP-2 had the best performance. Yeah I know he's just one dude, and you shouldn't believe everything you read on the net - but whatever, he sounded objective and thorough, so anyway the JP-2 is what I got, and though I've only run the JP-2 in my Muggy, with the LRP I was VERY happy with the power.. I've also run it on my Nova 528, and actually like it a bit better than the 086, though the 086 does have a bit more up top.. I like the JP-2 cuz it seems to have a big wide huge middle range.. The LRP with JP-2 is my favorite combo I've run in my Muggy yet...(or any truck, probably..)
BTW, I bought and then resold a JP-3, cuz so many people say what a power-killer it is...

RE: LRP owners step up! Pipe shopping....
The final decision for me came down to *what* I use the engine for. In a monster truck that's mainly just bashed around it lives in the mid range RPM's. Rarely do I make these continual high-RPM runs so a high range pipe isn't needed for me. My Axial .28 with the Dynamite 053 mid range pipe is just great for bashing.
BTW, an insert for the HPI polished pipe makes all the difference in the world. The ID of the stinger is ~10mm whereas my Dynamtie 053 is ~8mm. I machined an aluminum insert, pressed it in and boy that made a difference!

RE: LRP owners step up! Pipe shopping....
Well, my LRP arrived today, I guess I will start with an anodized Tsais header and an 053 pipe and see how that goes. Thanks guys for all the suggestions! I read the buggy and truggy threads too and it seems they like the JP3. This one is going to replace my STS 30 wheelie machine. The STS is still running great, makes a load of power, but it seems like you either have it all or you have nothing. It is really hard to make it run in the mid range and not everything I like to do with the Savage needs to be done at 40 plus mph and wailing. The old STS will sit proudly on the shelf until I decide it is wheelie time again. [8D] Thanks again, BB

Dont worry the LRP will wheelie like no tomarrow but its controllable throughout the rpm range. Just make sure you seal everything before you install it. The JP3 is a great pipe and really lets the lrp perform.

The LRP wheelies like no other. Make sure you have a high spur and clutch bell tooth combo. A Jammin' JP-2 or JP-3 will work fine. The JP-1 is all torque and the LRP doesn't need that at all. The JP-2 is more medium range and the JP-3 is all top end. Oh, and enjoy the LRP, she's a fine mill.

I am impressed with the insane power the STS 30 has, I just wish it was more manageable. If your Dad's STS 30 is not pulling, he is running with the wrong pipe and the head shims still in it or he has an air leak. They have aggressive timing and make big power, until the crank snaps, that is. Now if you said your LRP is easier to tune or stays tuned in varied conditions or that it is easier to operate, I would agree with that.

Well, if you ask any experts the LRP is known for more torque whereas the STS is known for top end. Yeah, my dads won't run under 300.

RE: LRP owners step up! Pipe shopping....
I will let it go with I have no experience with the LRP yet, about every body that owns the Picco and the LRP say the Picco makes more power. I do know that my Piccos will not out pull the STS. That being said, you have to be working it, the STS produces crazy power at full throttle, but it is a pain to just drive in the mid range. I will have experience with the LRP within the week. I do not look for the LRP to out pull my Piccos and I sure do not expect it to have the power the STS does. BB

That's not a blockage, that's a cone because it's a 2-chamber pipe.

There is a JP-4 pipe now. It claims improved mid to top end power without sacrificing bottom end power: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXTEB9&P=ML
