Default Proline Moab XL

Hi wondering if anyone is running these? I just took possesion of a Savage XL and am in the process of building it up.

If you are running the Moab XL's please post a pic and can you also give a wheel recommendation?

thanks!

The MOAB XL's use a special narrow 40 series wheel that only Pro-line makes. The narrow Cheyenne beadlock wheel. I would stay away from the MOAB's. They are great for rock crawling, but they are too heavy for a monster truck. Heavy tires=slow acceleration, poor top end speed, and increased gear and drivetrain stress, which leads to more worn and broken parts. The XL's have a rep for breaking diffs and the MOABS will only increase the chances of diff failure. Stick with the Terra pins, I think they are probably the lightest big tire (7") out there.

Thanks Revo Mad. I just hate the stock wheels and tires looks. I wanted something that looked better. Do you have any recomendations other that stock? I like the new t-maxx 3.3 wheels and tires, but i think the hex is a different size (14?).

When i first got my savage,i immediately ordered 40series mashers and axial beadlocks. They look awesome, but i soon found out why all the veterans were running race tires and wheels. If theres a place where you have to sacrifice form for functionality, this is where its at.I eventually went w/the all popular losi zombie maxx and maximizer beadlocks, which are still fairly heavy.Im keepin my mashers, incase we get any snowfall this year.

Proline Big Joe's would look awesome with Axial oversize 8 spoke wheels (17mm hubs). Bead locks look cool, but they are heavier than all plastic wheels and the beads tend to pop loose and then you have to remove a gazillion screws and put the bead back in! lol. Here's my Savage X SS with Big Joe's and Axial 8 spokes. They are about 6.5" in diameter, so the XL gearing should work fine with them.

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm thinking of getting the Losi LST tires and wheels, and then painting the wheels black. that would look sweet IMO!

they are very plush, the foam is big and soft...they do grip, but you get alot of roll in turns.

If you go with the bones then use proline molded foams, they will be about $9 a set...hpi stock foams are crap, and they aren't always glued square.

The badlands are awesome, I love my set mounted on mbx5 rims

Thanks for all the replies guys. I took the advice of Revomad and didn't get the moab XL.

I bought the LOSI MT CLAW tires w/foam from the LST/Aftershock http://www.rcboca.com/image2/default/LOSB7401.jpg as they are 7" tall and look super sweet and I also ordered a set of HPI 6 spokes http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/3116/ should look killer.

Thank you all again! I'm glad i got the advice about the moabs!

I hate to break it to you, but those Losi tires are likely heavier than the MOAB XL's because they are a lot wider. The 7" diameter and the added weight over the Terra pins is going to make your truck take a big hit in the performance department.

Crap. Well the i clicked 'submit' on the order yesterday night. Thanks anyways Revomad. I'll just keep the stock wheels/tires for playing and use the others for "show 'n shine". LOL...

The XL is geared for large tires, so you might be OK. If it feels sluggish off the line, just drop to a 15T clutch bell and you should be good.
