Savage 3.5 X RTR vs. Savage 4.6 XSS kit
What do you guys think is a better choice. I love building the kits and don't have any trouble building them though what will be a better all out truck.
The price of the kit is 529 AUD and 499 for the 3.5. Its a hard choice but for super sport id rather pay the extra 30 and build it my own. Whats your comments?

mmmmm, Dont think there was a 3.5.
In my Opinion - I would get the Savage XL...
Good Bang for Buck - 5.9engine, three speed, extended chassis, extended axles and larger cups and drive shafts...
Maybe a little more $$$ than the savage xss, but worth it for the upgrades..
Just my 2 cents
Oh sorry, 3.5 stands for .25
Yeah, there is no savage 3.5 X.
The Savage X range all have a 4.6 in them...

There is.. link here http://www.*********.com.au/store/pr...ca8813823ec5fe its updated from the 3.5, its the 3.5 RTR but with X features.
Don't want the Savage XL.. they are way over priced in Australia, all the savages just dropped in price except for xl.

I have the 3.5 great power great motor has never let me down.. From what I have heard it is an ABC motor not sure what it means but people say they are nearly bullet proof.. LOL I love mine my brother has the x withthe 4.6 and he only beats me by about two feet in a 50 yard race. But that could be gearing as well... But I can pull wheelies with eas plenty of power u wont be dissapointed...

Depends how they package it really. Wouldn't wanna open the easy access gearboxes and discover - GASP - plastic diff housings with 2 bevel gears!!
If you're certain its a full on X platform, and you need the radio gear, and don't mind swapping the engine once you've ripped the 3.5 to shreds, then its a dream come true.
From my understanding the XSS has a few upgrades here and there compared to the RTRs, like the stinger, Dirt Bonz tires and I think a few things in the drivetrain.

The HD outdrives and dogbones are useless in the XSS kit.
the std X4.6 diffs are good enough for most trucks, even the ones making epic power.
if the X3.5 has the aluminum diffs, and the easy access gearbox and bulkheads, GET IT!

What I am extremely confused at is on this website http://www.hpieurope.com/kit-info.ph...No=882&lang=en it says that this is the classic one just updated. Now if you go here http://www.*********.com.au/store/ad...f741c2&x=0&y=0 its a different build but with the X platform..
I can't find anything on the HPI website about a Savage X 3.5 just a classic, but in the picture it does show the "X" and the only difference is the engine and exhaust.
If that is the "X" platform then I will probably get the 3.5 as within a few months I'll swap it out for a Picco .28.

reguardless what everyone says you will not be dissapointed withthe 3.5 there are a bunch of 2.5 's out there and mine will run one into the ground and keep up with the 4.6 like I stated above.. The motor is solid as a ROCK.. its an ABC constructed motor. I run the heck outta mine daily and it keeps going.. Haters.. its still a savage just not an xl if the choice was xl or 3.5 go xl but other than that no major power diffrnec my brother has the 4.6 and I run side by side with him.

straight from hpi's site says "Savage 3.5 – the best “value for money†Savage ever!"
If your gonna go picco go for it. Three speed trannys are not that great. Piccos destroy them anyways. Too much torque
### NO PLASTIC DIFFS### I have one

Spoon...make sure it's got the aluminum diffs before you go doing anything like that...the 28 will eat those plastic diffs for lunch

its the X platform just different starter and engine. 17mm hex hubs etc, I think it has the aluminum diffs. Looks to be great value.

RE: Savage 3.5 X RTR vs. Savage 4.6 XSS kit
Thanks tbj but this whole savage thing has confused me a little
So the engine, the diff case and the dual brakes are the only differences between the older and the newer X ??
I found a good deal for a savage x but its the 4.1 and I don't know if it's'worth it. Well, the dude that's selling it has upgraded the cases to alloy and the brakes. But is there any other major difference between these two that a basher would notice? Like the drive shafts or the transmission for example.

Nope.
Savage X 4.1 is identical to the 4.6, for the most part. Engine/CB are different, diffs are different, brakes are different, that is all

Does the 3.5 share parts with any other savages? Does anyone know the top speed of the 3.5?
I am also thinking of buying one. Do you think i should?
Thanks
