I put an Axial 32 carb on my STS 30. Bought the carb (new) of ebay.

The Axial carb also worked very well on one of my STS's. Only thing with the Axial carb is the low speed needle seat screw, it can move on you while engine is running, so just put a covering of silicone over the screw and the silicone will bond to both the screw top and the carb case, there-by providing some locking to the screw. Easy to revove is you want to adjust or remove the screw.

Also RB carbs do a good job, but they are way more expensive than the Axial.

What part did he break? Might be able to replace it.
