i was looking for a new servo for my savage x 4.6 cause it broke the other day i was looking at these three servos are any of them pretty good. looking for something that durable, strong, and can handle some cartwheels?

The first one I think the case size wont fit the savage I could be wrong
The second one will work
The third one is a Hi speed witch would be good for throttle-brake

Pick up a SF-5 of Ebay from one of the chop shops, they seem to be a nice servo, priced right and everything fits. If you buy a HiTech, the drive is smaller, so you will have to change the servo arm as well. Glen

The 755 has a lot of tq, but it delivers at a slow rate. Try to pick up a Hitec 985MG off ebay. I got one for $55 shipped. Metal gears, 178 tq and .10 speed IIRC.

SF-5 did me well. Got it for $35 shipped (chop shop off eBay). It is metal geared and mounts right up to the Savage; same servo horn and all. It has great torque. It can easily jam those tires back and forth with the truck moving still, even when the battery starts to get weak.

That first servo is WAY too big to fit into a standard servo tray.

The other two would be great servos, the 5645 will take alot of abuse. Fortunately in a Savage, they are contained in the batt box inbetween the TVPs, so they are very well protected.

Just for grins, the best standard sized Hitec servo I see on the market today is the 7050TH. At 6V, 403in-oz, .15sec 60degree transit sweep, and capable of 486in-oz if you push 7.2V into it.

Just curious, what are decent speed ratings for the T/B and steering servos. I picked up two Hitech 645mg and am planning on using one for each task, and only to be used for bashing. Speed is .20sec/60deg

which size servo horn do the hpi servos use?

are they futaba sized or hitec sized. i have a hobbico servo that is basically a rebranded 645mg that i plan on using for steering in my savage as the sf-2 is weak and mine only turns left now.

New trucks come with new servo arms if they are not the correct ones.

When building my x ss i put the steering servo from a team associated mgt 8.0,

S2008MG high torque metal gear steering servo

It has 111 oz of toruqe with a .2 second transit time,

this servo is really cheap from the chop shops on ebay i got mine for $11.00

i have found it to be plenty of power for the savage and its also metal geared

111 oz in? ThunderbirdJunkie would be disappointed in that torque in his 1/10 gas truck.

We suggest you keep it over 200 oz in, and look for a .15 or faster transit time.

Yeah, Im glad that HPI does that. The optional servos with different spline counts are are blessing, because as we all do, we dump the stock SF servos and drop in Hitecs, JRs, Futabas, etc.

Yup^ I had to switch the servo horns when I purchased the Hitec965MG and Hitec985MG.

For crisp trigger pulls, a servo with a .15sec transit sweep is probably best. You can use servos with .20sec transit sweep times, since you will be bashing, but you will begin to feel the delay when you are in mid flight from a jump and you need to gas it to pitch the nose to straighten the truck out. But for on ground bashing, that .20sec T/B time will not really hinder you.

As usual, the faster and the mroe torque the servo, the better. But if you want to remain on a budget, just weight what kind of bashing you will be doing. If you will do alot of jumps and need to correct the flight attitude of your Savage while in the air, a crisp faster servo will be better. Otherwise, the Joe Blow 645MG will suffice even for T/B duty.

Check out this servo I found, you can probably mount it in a gasser, but to put one of these in a Savage would require you to strip out the batt box altogether!

I have been running my savage 25 with the Hitec 654-MG for months now and never had any problems, had afew massive crashes on the front wheels aswell and it still works fine. great servo.

It only has 149 oz of torque I think the stock S-5 from a XL has more then that so I don't think it would be a up grade [sm=shades_smile.gif]

This servo will be an absolute direct drop in for ANY Savage. I have two of these in one of my 5th scales, and they are great. Though I delegated them to dual-brake duty (actually, 4 discs, a disc brake at each wheel), they have the torque to lock the brakes in a jiffy.

I have the robotic version of this servo, its older version, the 5995TG in my basher savages, and they turn the wheels whith no problems at all. Even if you get Imex Jumbo Kong wheels, the 5995, 5955, and the 7955TG servos will do the trick easily, they are all 333in-oz torque rated. The 7955 is superior to my older 5995 because it actually has a faster transit sweep time of .15sec vs my 5995's .20+ sec

it must be very durable seeing that the gears are titanum? would u get this one or a sf-5.
everybody seems to like the sf-5 but from what i under stand its a stock servo for the xl and nobody seems to like stock servos?
