Default Newbe to the world of savage.

I bought my savage in september really starting running it reacently. I love it so now i am just learning to tune it. I think i got a pretty good handle on it. If anyone has any other advise on what to do how to run it and maintain it to not blow it up. I heard some stories of just hearing the sound pop and then big dollar signs people don't like.

pick up a good temp gauge and keep within engine temp limits u should be fine....these hpi engines are usally pretty forgiving.

When motor runs the idle is up to high. It engages the shoes to soon. When i turn the idle screw down it almost is cumming out of the carb body. All the other nobs i guess is just tune as you go. What do i do?

I would use my trim on the TX to adjust it so it wasn't up to high just sitting. But make sure that it's good and warm before you do adjustments.. Then start with the hSN and get good smoke but not to much. Last you want to play with the LSN to get the bottom end just right. Watch some tunning vids on utube, they really help.
Plus it's been a year since I'v touched my savage or any nitro...

You may be way too lean on the low end, how does it sound after a run? Does the truck take off strong, lifting or almost lifting the tires off idle? If not, you are probably running very lean on the low side. Another sign of a lean low end is very hard starting.

Thanks for the tip. I turned more nobs in the right direction so it screams like it should. It still does not shift into third gear. Do i still keep adjusting the transmission to work into third gear.

You always want smoke at full throttle if you don't see smoke you are way to lean. What X and engine are you running? [sm=shades_smile.gif]

Good luck with the X to XL conversion, a number of knowledgeable people here have done it, in case you have questions or run into problems.
ummmmm. about the K5.9....do a bit of research before you decide on that motor. the general consensus that I have heard is that the 5.9 motor will give you problems. Leaking front bearing is one and having to lean it alot just to get decent power is another.
Even HPI advertises the F4.6 as their "Fastest Savage ever (nitro of course)"

Thats about all i can say...because i have never owned a 5.9XL. I have driven one and read alot about it. Check out the youtube videos too...see for yourself the motors that are throwing around the savage xl

I put the old side plates back on it for the wheelies . Then i got an hpi tuned pipe #86139andtested with some road tires. I think it was going well then my fail safe kicked in the reciver pack battery was going to low. Oh well just charge the battery then go at it again next. I got to get a camera to video to show everyone.

Got an axial .32 motor and breaking it in. first and second tank in it. That itchy trigger finger can not take the wait.

The Axial .32 is a pretty good engine... I have one, and can say it was the smoothes breakin ever in my experience, and a very powerful engine too...
