secrets on lrp z.28 spec 3 with pullstart?
Well, i finally finished my project and my lrp z.28 comin in wed. it's the spec 3 with pullstart. everyone states this engine is easy to tune which is awesome. how about the pullstart? i decided to stick with pull start and give it another chance. what are some of your secrets to get the engine to start on 2-3 pulls? This will be a brand new engine and i've read forum sometimes loosening the glow plug a little will help it start little easier. heat the engine with a blow dryer is what i did before, but I had a rotostart on my previous engine. any other secrets or your own ritual you do? excited to do this right. last truck I destroyed becuase of being a newb. got a little more experience under my belt this time and put a lot of time, money, and dedication on this savage.

I use my thumb to over power the throttle spring at the servo, but you can use the trhottle trim on your radio, or set the servo before you try starting it. What you want to do is open the throttle just enough to start expanding the carburetor bellow, that silicone boot with the ribs in it where your throttle linkage hooks on. It lets the engine have a little more fuel and air to work with while trying to start and a stronger pulse when it fires. It also helps to leave the charger on for 20 seconds or so before trying to start, the plug and button are prewarmed that way. When I prime, I watch the fuel travel from the tank to the carburetor. I prime by removing the fuel line from the exhaust and blowing into it. A lot of guys say nitro is toxic and that is a dangerous habit. Glen

A lot better than Byron's! That stuff is instant burn if you get some fresh fuel on your lips.... If you do not want to risk the fuel at the pipe, bring a section of clean line with you and prime at the tank. Glen

I never thought of bringing extra fuel line. I guess I have not been burned by the fuel on my lips though. I just wipe the fuel line with my finger before I blow and all seems to work well!

RE: secrets on lrp z.28 spec 3 with pullstart?
I have a nosram 28, which is basically the same as the LRP 28 spec 3...
Mine starts really easy.
First i find it easy to have a good tune, fresh fuel, good glow plug and charged igniter.
Than, i open throttle up full, prim the engine by taking fuel line off the exhaust and blowing in it, like
budbud stated. keep the throttle open full and turn the engine over 4 times (with out glow igniter in).
Close throttle back to idle, plug in igniter and it should start within 4 pulls.
If it's a new engine, than it helps if you heat the engine up with a hairdryer before hand....
