Default Gearingclutchbells and spur gears???

Someone help me better understand what to use. For example, a Savage XL using a 47 tooth, 49 tooth, and a 52 tooth spur gear, which tooth clutchbell should be used with each if you are running a 28-30 nitro engine using the standard sized tires that comes with the truck? What's the best formula for figuring out what combo to use? Thanks.

The stock gearing is usually best, or you can gear DOWN to go easier on the clutch shoes (higher gearing will in a way "choke" the clutch shoes and make them slip a little more until they start grabbing).

Clutchbell-gearing down means going down in tooth count. Going down in tooth count will give you better low-end, but take away some top end. Going up in tooth count will give you better top end but will take away bottom end.
Spurgear-gearing down means going UP in tooth count. Gearing up means going DOWN in tooth count.

Thanks for the reply. The truck has stock gearing with the 4.6 a 16t bell with a 52t spur. I am going to put an 8.0 tranny in it with the 49t steel spur. What tooth clutchbell should I switch to to get it back close to stock preformance with the 4.6 engine? Thanks.

I'm not sure what the gearing is inside that particular transmission, so I couldn't tell you.

The gearing in the 8.0 tranny isthesame as the 4.6 tranny except that the 8.0 has all steel gears inside. What tooth bell would you go with then? Thanks
