Default Newbie FLUX owner with some questions

Hi All,

Ihave been out of RC's for a very long time. My last car was a kyosho (I forgot the model). Iwas on youtube and randomly found the Savage Flux. The more i watched videos the more Iwanted one. Ijust ordered one .

Iwas wondering if the new models come with the bulletproof diffs? I also ordered a new longer and thicker TVP to convert it into a Flux XL.

Ihave also read in some placed about shimming. What parts are you guys shimming? Iwant this thing to be indestructible.

Thanks

The latest Fluxes should be shipping with the bulletproof gears. I'd call HPI and ask them exactly when they started shipping kits with the gears so you know if yours has them or not. As long as you buy one of the newest kits, you will get the gears....if you get a kit that has been sitting on a shelf for a while (not likley considering Fluxes sell fast) it won't have the newest gears. Worst case, you don't get a Flux with the new gears.....just call HPI and tell them your situation and that you want the new gears. They'll send them out to you....just make sure they send you a set for the front AND rear. lol

Shimming is just adding or removing thin spacers (shims) to set the ring and pinion gear mesh. The teeth have to mesh just about perfectly for optimum wear and strength. It's not hard to do at all, just takes a little bit of time.

Yeah i understand shimming but can't the pinion just be moved and set with the set screw? Are you shimming so that there is not so much play? What exact parts are you guys shimming?

my guess is that they are shimming the diffs. for less play in the parts.
