Diffs
any of you guys ever JB weld your diffs solid? I just rebuilt my rear case with all new spider gears, new aluminum case, shims and all. Well after about 2 hours of beating on this truck, the modified Picco P3 busted the rear diff again. I took it apart and it busted the spider gears. So what I was thinking is to just fill the case with JB weld until I can order a solid diff set if one is made for the Savage XL.
BTW, I have seen alot of guys complaining about the transmissions breaking and all that but man after owning my XL for almost a year, this truck has only busted the rear end twice but within a month. It has been solid for me thus far.

RE: Diffs
The JB weld will work but it will ruin the case. This is what you need http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXNWS7&P=SM [sm=shades_smile.gif]

RE: Diffs
yeah the JB won't help too much with the gear strengh and if you want to go back to open diffs you'll end up spending about the cost of one of those lockers in parts...

it says that one will work with the savage x, but says nothing about the XL diffs.

RE: Diffs
if you run on the road or any solid surface does it make the drive train chearp. I know in a full size vehicle it is real hard on the drive train to run lockers on the road.

RE: Diffs
I had a diff locker in my front diff and I noticed that my dog-bones started twisting a bit (one end was about 45+ degree angle opposed to the other) and the cups were taking a beating as well...SO, I took it out and just put in thicker diff oil, so that it still has near locking ability but without the added stress on the drive-train.
