Any tips on rewinding the Savage Nitro Star Pull Start?
Rewinding the k4.6 pull start is a pain. Any helpful tips to successfully rewind it? I don't want to buy a new one.

Just Google "How to repair a Nitro Pull-start".
Here's a video that came up when I tried it:

All I can say is wear gloves and be patient. If after a few times your loosing patience then have a beer (if your old enough) yell at it then try again.

Skip to the beer. Then after you've finished your drink, order a new pullstart.

I had to change the pull start cord on my buggy and all was going well until the band spring came flying out of the housing. After 40 minuets and countless ways of trying to get it back in I was about to give up and on my last attempt it worked. One beer will not be enough.

Also make sure small children are as far away from you as possible due to the colorful language you probably will start using

Its actually very easy once you understand the proper way to do it. I must have re-wound the P/S spring on my old Sirio about 25 times before it finally snapped. The first few times I did, it took me an hour or two per try, once I got the method down, it took 10 mins each time if that much. I recently did one for a buddies LRP 30 and its all the same, I forgot how to rewind them so it took me about 30 mins till I remembered the method. Here is the trick:
Step 1. Remove whole assembly.
2. Snip off or untie the knot holding the P/S handle and remove all that.
3. Wind the spring just so it fits into the housing, and the outer folded part of the spring notches into the part of the housing its supposed to go.
4. Now take the cog wheel with the notch in the center for the other end of the spring, make sure the cord from the cog goes through the hole and is fully extended, and NOT wound up on the wheel.
5. Now I forgot which direction you turn, but you'll figure it out once you have your hands are on it, turn the wheel and you will be winding up the spring until the thread is just about to pass the hole of the P/S housing.
6. Make sure you wind it down an EXTRA turn, so that when you assemble it, the P/S handle will retract all the way and not be floppy, cause it wont be as tight as you initially wind it once you use the start a couple times.
7. Assemble accordingly, pull the cord through the handle and whatever else you need to and tie a double knot. Takes 10-15 mins tops when you know what your doing. [8D][>:]

RE: Any tips on rewinding the Savage Nitro Star Pull Start?
i've found there are 2 types one type is easy and can be done very quickly the other which the k5.9 (which i got a pull start of cuz i was thinkiing about going back to pull and the guy didn't wanna rewind) and i think the k4.6 is a royal PITA because of how its setup and you gotta get it in that little cut out, i've gotten close, you'll want a small flat head screw driver on hand i'd say 2mm tip, maybe 1mm, and needle nose pliers, also use a little CA to glue the spring to the center hub i found this helps when starting out and keeping it in place

Well, it took some patience and a lot of dexterity, but I got it to work. I used squriell's method (youtube link posted above).
I have the k4.6 and that little notch was a PITA, but it helps to screw down the metal band once it's in the notch.

Black mamba, you mean I don't have to put my foot on the truck and start pulling LMAO j/k. I've yanked all of my pullstarts out at one time or another... Heres a tip.. stand close enough so that when you pull the cord you hit yourself in the chest if you pull to far....... you'll get tired of hitting yourself and learn the length of the cord quick. sounds kind of silly but I haven't pulled one out in a while.
