RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

From some of the pics and how thin the transmission is, it leads me to believe that it will have an external 2 speed like those in the lst, mgt, and others. As for the blister comment if its anything like the 1/5th scales then you don't have a thing to worry about, tune them once and always start on the first pull and even at most one or two to prime the motor and then it starts on 3rd pull.

If you guys look back to page 3 you'll notice the engine went from 8cc to 15cc, wonder how much more oomf that's going to provide. From facebook they said we should see this xmas of this year, they said march of last year and we didn't hear anything until after christmas so i guess we will see.

in the 3rd to last pic, do i see gear teeth on the fly wheel?
I'm seeing them too. I'm thinking: Onboard electric start?

and who else is getting a blister from just looking at that pull start?
If you get a blister from your pull start you're doing it wrong. It should start in five to ten pulls, if it doesn't, diagnose it. Don't just keep ripping on it like an idiot.

I noticed that too. Perhaps there's two tiers of engine, 8cc for 1/10 cars and 15cc for 1/8? Smallblock and bigblock?

i had the same idea about the electric start. also had a passing thought of it possibly being there for a future alternator add-on. if that is in fact the flywheel (cant really see a distinction between the flywheel and clutch bell), it could be a 2-in-one starter motor/generator.

i got the blister from my first nitro. it was a used duratrax axis with a brand new picco .21 that i put in it. i had never started a nitro before and i wasnt too sure how to tune or setup a carb yet. with this thing, it's not so much how many times you have to hank the cord but how hard. i imagine this thing will have some compression to it.

as for the engine displacement change, i think they decided that 8cc was too weak for this behemoth. or they ran into a problem with such a small gasoline engine being temperamental or troublesome in some aspect and the easiest fix was making it bigger.

Starter/gen would be too noisy with straight cut gears like that. Maybe the teeth are a hall effect sensor or something strange?

That's rookie tuning mistakes. I had engines that didn't want to fire back then too. Nowadays mine start so easy it boggles my mind that people even come close to getting blisters.

Do you get blisters from starting 5HP push mowers? 50cc chainsaws? 35cc weed whackers? No? Then you won't here, either. Gas engines are notoriously easy to start, and they're gonna be pretty soft as well. 8:1 or 9:1 comp at most, glow engines hover around the 12:1 or 13:1 area.

So no. You won't get blisters yanking away on this gas engine.

That's my thought. Smallblock for the small cars, big block for the big cars. Used to be the case with 0.12-0.15 and 0.21-up glow engines back in the day, before the smallblocks got so insane that they'll throw 1/8s around like ragdolls.

Possible, but you'd think they wouldn't be displaying the smaller engined cars if that were the case. Also, it's HPI, they do know a thing or two about engines. They've had a couple of real humdingers over the years, hell who doesn't, but they make a decent mill 99% of the time. They'll figure it out.

That truck has been in the works for two years. I think the buyout had something to do with the delays. Its not the only thing that got delayed, there was supposed to be a completely new race buggy come out last year. All we got was the harra model D8. They do have a new buggy now, but I dont think it was a complete overhaul, just a few parts swapped and a chassis change. I could be wrong on that though, I only looked at the new buggy once on their site.

A small bump, I've been doing some googling since nothing has been heard about this truck. With the passing of rcx and another EU hobby show I was hoping that we would have some more light shown upon this beast.

The best that I've found is this [link=http://www.hobbymedia.it/43901/hpi-savage-xl-octane-4wd-monster-shizuoka-hobby-show]Click Me[/link], one or two new pics without the engine and there info platter talking about sometime in the summer for an unveil of some sort.

The only other thing i found was these links that i'm not sure if they mean anything but one of them has hands on pictures. [link=http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hpi-savage-xl-octane-15cc-rtr/rc-car-products/371986]Modelsport Xl Octane[/link] [link=http://sriremotetoysblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/hpi-racing-savage-xl-octane.html]Sri Toy blog on the xl which links[/link] [link=http://www.sriremotetoys.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=6444]to this store with a guest'd price?[/link]

Since user [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=11487531]Crop[/link] talked about OS being the manufacture behind this engine, I thought I would check O.S. to see if i could find anything and I came across this. A heli model but this is the closest thing that resembles hpi's. [link=http://www.osengines.com/engines-heli/osmg1915/index.html]GT15HZ Gasoline Engine[/link]

The last thing worth noting is this facebook page that shares the model sport link but he posted a date? :[link=https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?id=121577511247980&story_fbid=439801 179430973]10.6.2013[/link] Which is a possible release date?

Here's the pic of the facebook page for people who don't want to go to facebook.
