RE: which engine is better: k4.6 or F4.6?
ORIGINAL: hansdava thank u guys for the info, but one last question the axial engines can be mod... to roto start or they are only pull start? I belive you can use the Roto Start Backplate for the K4.6 on the Axial .28 Spec 1, since the engines are very similar. Not sure about the .28RR though... The Axial engine use the K-series engine starters, and likewise, the K4.6 use the Axial big block starters. Even the .28 Spec1 RR will mount the K-series rotostarter directly. |

When you start your Axial, open the carb slightly and prime it. They really do start easy. I have owned 8 of the Axial 28/32 Hpi K4.6 engines and 5 of the K5.9 engines. None are big on power, but the generally start and tune easily. Another plus for them is that they have a really nice robust pill starter. Glen |

That is almost useless when you look at all the different fuels they used to test with, where is the parity in that game? [quote] I didn't write it, I just found it. Sorry... I still have the stoke F4.6 with a tuned pipe and it has plenty of power. I have a hard time keeping the front wheels down on take off. Not sure how enjoyable more power would be but I'm still learning the truck and it's driving dynamics. |
RE: which engine is better: k4.6 or F4.6?
My son's F4.6 (thanks Glen) outruns my K4.6. Both tuned by me, same gearing, not tested in lab environment.. etc. For what we do, we are happy with them. We wouldn't know how to act with much more power.....

I totally agree with you. My F 4.6 runs great!

RE: which engine is better: k4.6 or F4.6?
Yup, I love my F4.6 too. I love it so much in fact, I bought another one for my truck. Well... i actually fully rebuilt it. New Crank case(with bearings) New head (with button), New piston/sleeve/rod. So basically new engine.
The first one reached almost 10 gallons, and the only reason i rebuilt it was because i completely stripped my head button. Glow plug would leak like crazy and it got to the point where it would just slide in and out without even screwing it in. And since i bought all the items off ebay, and i had to replace the head button anyways, i completely rebuilt it. Cost me about $70 for everything(saved myself $50 or so). The old engine could have easily run for 13-15 gallons. It still had great pinch, tuned tremendously well (could idle for ever, extremely consistent and easy tuning) and still had all of its power. In comparison to the K4.6. Ive never run against a K4.6 and not beat it. Quite easily faster than the K4.6s. And also, it seems like wheelies are far easier on the F4.6, especially with the truck rolling. The K4.6 can only get the truck up if its at a complete stop. The K4.6 seems to have a bit more mid-range power. But not much. In a drag race, the K4.6 truck seems to catch up a bit after they both hit 2nd gear. |
