Which engine Poll

So i have $150 us to spend on a new engine including shipping to Australia...Was going to buy a axial .28 but there are better engines i can get for that price...
It is mostly out of the SH Porspec .28 or Sts .28 or .30...
Looking for reliability, fuel consumption low,and power for price.

SH .28 P6
1. Ok why the roto start version?
2. Also with the SH 28 p6 dont knwo much about it,how does it compare to the axial .28 or k4.6,and lrp .28?
3. What are the common problems?
4. Is it hard to tune?
5. How does the fuel comsumption compare with the k4.6?

STS .28
6. I was looking at the sts .28 also...
7. Is it hard to tune?
8. Any common problems?
9. How does the fuel comsumption compare with the k4.6?

10.Which is faster sts .28 or sh prospec ?
11.Which is more reilable because im am mostly looking for reliability and fuel consumption?
Pros and cons
I will try find out some of the answers myself, just dont want to buy an engine and find out something bad about it...
If you all help me out ill get plenty videos and jeep you updated...

RE: Which engine Poll

I voted for the SH .28-P6 simply because I've never seen any of the other ones in person, and because thats what I have in my Savage. Considering that it's not tuned yet and my tranny wasn't shifting the last time I ran it the engine seems to be quite a little powerhouse.

From what I've read here SH is made by the same manufacturer as LRP and a few others so....

RE: Which engine Poll

SH IS the manufacturer of LRP, XTM, Dynamite's Mach line, and a couple others.

Could someone please try answer my questions,at the start, expecially fuel consumptions and common problems?Or pros and cons?

RE: Which engine Poll

Picco lrp etc are to expensive...i think im leaning towards the sh .28 prospec p6...is it posible to get it as pullstart why are most version rotostart?

Isd the p6 and p3 alot different?

I dont really want the p6 since i only can find it as roto start and i just sold my roto start im already over the limit...
Any other good shop apart from rc mall...and cheaper the $135?

ttoks 12-22-2007 04:21 AM

RE: Which engine Poll

the P6 is an SH engine, the P6 is exactly the same engine as the LRP z.28 spec 3, the P3 is the picco .28 P3.

RE: Which engine Poll

Naynay, by a LONG WAY get the SH over the STS engines.. I assume you're ordering from Asia??

IMO starting off rotostart is a safer bet. The big 28 engines are HARD on pullstarts, especially when new. And nothing sucks like taking your gear out and having a PS c.rap out...

My approach nowadays is to use rotostart for break-in and the first gallon or so, then later to go PS.. I prefer PS cuz it's easier, but of all starting options I think it's probably the least reliable - and that considering Axial pullstarts, which are probably the best (for 28's)

I'm not bashing STS engines or STS fans, but I personally would never go near one with a ten-foot stick... That's just my opinion, right or wrong, so no offense.. But having been on enough forums for a couple years, I've just seen WWWWAAAAYYYYYYY too many people with headaches.. Mostly quality issues - of various kinds.. From horrible pullstarts to crummy o-rings to having to replace entire carbs to 3 gallon break-ins(after which one guy's just died - after a 3-gallon break-in!!!... No thanks..) I've never had one, but then I've never had a Warhead either, and never will have either.. That said, I do believe the guys who say their STS's shred it up when they're running right, and have seen some persuasive videos - but unfortunately the guys with problems far outnumber them..

Anyway, just my opinion - so no offense STS guys!!! Seriously..

And naynay, if you're considering ordering from Tower, you can get the LRP Spec 3 fro $150..

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXKYU8&P=ML

Here the discount codes(for international buyers..):

$100.00 - $149.99 $10.00 011NA
$150.00 - $199.99 $20.00 011NB
$200.00 - $249.99 $25.00 011NC
$250.00 - $299.99 $30.00 011ND
$300.00 - $399.99 $40.00 011NE

Throw in a pipe or some clutch shoes or glow plugs or whatever, and you can whack $25-30 from the price of the LRP.... Shipping though would be hefty..

If that's too expensive, get the SH... I've read as much raving positive stuff about SH P6's as I have bad stuff about STS's, and therefore - personally anyway - wouldn't hesitate to get one.. It's an LRP Spec 2 BTW, which means it's got a tad more low end but is missing maybe a hair on top compared to the Spec 3, but with a multi-speed MT, you prob won't notice it much... And in any case, it's still on the border if not over for what most Savages can handle...

I say go SH P6..

(with rotostart for starters...)

ps Naynay, the Axial is nothing to stick your nose up at either.. It's the same as the K4.6, but there are few engines out there as easy to use and reliable. I think you had some problems, right?? If so then you either had a lemmon or s.crewed something up..:D

HerrSavage 12-22-2007 04:45 AM

RE: Which engine Poll

Sh also has a P3 - the 3-port version - which is supposedly also awesome... But the SH P6 (6 port) is supposedly better...

The P6 BTW is the same as an LRP Spec 2, not Spec 3..

SH BTW supposedly has a blue-headed LRP Spec 3 equivalent, but I haven't heard of anyone having one.. Saw pics of it on their website a long time ago....

RE: Which engine Poll

I voted STS D28M
Its all good patrick no offense taken, i kind of agree, my sts has its good and its bad days but its good enough for me.

Rexzilla from here (hes Aussie to) gave me this internet site that had the STS D30M for $195 AU, there is also the same engine going on ebay.com.au right now for $195AU. And after ages of searching here are the links for rexzillas sites on the sts 30.[link=http://www.rcgarage.com/]RC Garage[/link],[link=http://mrcmodelcarparts.com.au/front.asp?pid=22]MRC[/link]

********* it a bit more expensive!!!

i voted other because, i'm a fan of ofna engines. compared to my k46 in my savy, my roomie's force 26 and my force 28 screams! also they hold a very nice tune.

+1 for the Picco and LRP. Also consider the Mach 427 or XTM 24.7 engines.

-1 for the Axial .28 since I've found it lacking after hearing all the hype.

STS engines are NOT for beginners, and I'm assuming you're a beginner. STS engines are for people that want ridiculously fast, high maintenance problematic cars, like 1980s Maseratis and Ferraris. I like screwing around with things and getting it right...most people don't.

Ok,guys expecially patrick for his big wwrite up...im leaning toward the lrp spec 3,sh .28,p3 or p6 im not sure yet since i just sold my roto start,it all depend showmuch money i get for my k4.6 with extras...
ATM the auctions at 165,about $150 au,then i need shipping for the engine also...
All depends howmuch it sells for if i even get as much as it is atm,i might have to get the sh p3 since i dont have engough money for the roto start...then buying a pullstart later on,but will see in a few days.
I dont think im going to go with sts me they dont sound good for people that only owned 2 engines...
But thanks all you guys i would have gone for the axial but there are better engines for the price!

Do the lrp and sh use the same glowplugs as the k4.6 i have about 5 spare glowplugs...

RE: Which engine Poll

oh yes and on the LRP and SH, you can very easily adapt the losi spin start backplate to fit, and use the losi spin start with the long starter shaft.
