There is more information in the Ikarus Germany website [link=http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/onlineshop/deutsch/oxid.php/sid/2ea75c3234845701d78d91979f685e6b/cl/alist/cnid/caa4720c50bb40dc3.63892922]here[/link]. I have summarized the interesting features below. It will need a more powerful cpu and graphics card compared to AFPD.

Aerofly5 is an entirely newly programmed R/C flight simulator

After the very successful “Aerofly Professional Deluxe†the “Aerofly5â€, newly programmed from the ground up, will be released shortly.

The new “Aerofly 5†convinces with many new features and functions. It sure is a new generation flight simulator for maximum flight enjoyment.

The virtual world of the “Aerofly 5†offers, besides breath taking photo sceneries, completely new ‘4D-Virtual-Elements-Graphicsâ€, which have never been seen before. The new “4D-Virtual-Elements†sceneries are extraordinary; just imagine 4D sceneries at the quality of photo sceneries.

The “4D-Virtual-Element Technology†makes trees sway in the wind, water move, while creating also thermals and wind. Thanks to this new technology the virtual world becomes lively. The quality of the graphics in full HD is second to none.

It is up to you to determine the type of weather, wind and day time. Training Programs such as the new Torque and Hover Trainer for fixed wing model airplanes, the Hover Trainer for helicopters or a special Landing Trainer are outstanding programs to develop your R/C flying to perfection. Fascinating contests such as “Pylon Racingâ€, “Air Race†and “Limbo Flying†are very interesting features.

The “Aerofly 5†offers challenges for novices and experts alike.

With the “Model Editor†over 50 different models can be perfectly fine tuned to personal preference. Even the scale ratio can be increased or reduced.

In the “Multi-Player Mode†you may fly together with other pilots on the internet or local network.

The Transmitter–Fast–Calibration and the Mode-Direct-Selection allow the pilot to easily set up his personal Mode in just a matter of seconds. With the Movie-Center you will create your very own flight videos. And the list goes on and on ….

More than 43 new features, functions and set ups guarantee a maximum amount of flight enjoyment.

Day of first release is October 30, 2009!

Recommended system requirements:
- Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon64 X2
- OpenGL Version 3.0 compatible 3D-graphics card from NVIDIA or ATI with 512 MB. At least as fast as NVIDIA GeForce 8800 or ATI Radeon HD4850
- For optimum sound quality we recommend a high quality standalone PCI soundcard, e.g. Creative Audigy.

NEW!! Aerofly 5 for Mac has also been just announced for release in March 2010!! There are some details [link=http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/onlineshop/deutsch/oxid.php/sid/06309a7f162f781ae5775f7e3f311d2b/cl/alist/cnid/bf34ad5d89c75a219.96144718]here[/link]

Sigh...sure didn't take long for my system to become "baseline". Technology marches on.

From what I can tell it's around $175 USD for the upgrade version?

Any idea if any of the AFPD add-on models and sceneries I have purchased over the past few years will be compatible?

Default RE: Aerofly 5 preview!

Some information for those, who created user built airplanes for the AFPD using MetasequoiaLE R2.1a.

Mike Holder from Argentina asked me the following questions and I asked Ipacs for the answers.

Here they are:

Will we still be able to construct models?
Yes

Will we still be able to use Metasequoia to do so?
Yes, a converter will be available once aerofly 5 is in the market and when we have received enough user feedback in case of open issues.

Will the equivalent of the TMD file still exist?
Yes. The format changed a lot however it will be easier to set up models.

Will our existing TMD files be useable in the new Aerofly?
No

Karl, the coding for AF5 is very different from that of AFPD. Therefore AFPD addon models and sceneries are not compatible with AF5

Highfly, in the beginning. AF5 will have 50 models and 35 sceneries. However there will be new and free models in the months following the initial release.

Thanks for the info Mike. One last question: It appears from the website that you will still use your original USB/TX interface with the upgrade package. Is that correct?

Yes, that is the understanding I have from Ikarus, but they will post more details soon, including what AFPD items you have to send back.

I finally get a computer that can run AFPD, buy AFPD off of the bay, have yet to receive it and then find out that Aerofly5 will be available in a month. Sigh.\

Hopefully someone will carry the upgrade version in the USA.

The good news is that my Core i7 system should be ready to go.

EA,

I'm sure I will be happy with it. It's mostly for my 6 year old son to learn on anyway. I looked at the other offerings out there, but I like the fact that you can download planes for AFP/AFPD. I rarely use the planes that come in the package.

It looks like the upgrade is about half the price of the full package. I paid about 1/3 of what AFPD cost new, so I'm still ahead in the end.

I placed an order for the Aerofly 5 several days ago and still have not gotten confirmation on ship date. I have also tried several times to write to customer service with questions about the new product but no one ever answers. Is the customer service email address you list on the Ikarus site ever monitored??[&o]

I am currently an aerofly professional deluxe user.

Will aerofly5 work with my current USB/transmitter interface box/cable (I use a separate JR transmitter)?

Is it considered an upgrade which I install on top of my current product or is it entirely new software product that I install separately?

Will aircraft models from my current AFPD software be able to work in the new product?

Is there an upgrade price or special price for existing customers? How much (in US dollars)?
