Aerofly and VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP
OK...so I insert the CD...load both aerofly and the graphics program...then download both patches...
I successfully load one of the patches...the other one doesn't "see" the aerofly program on my computer. It indicates that Aerofly isn't on my computer and that I should load it. So I reloaded the program (an option, thankfully, in the start-up menu) but to no avail.
Hmm...
So I start AeroFly Pro (afp) and a dos-looking window opens...indicating that it's loading some scenery...then loading airplane 1, christeneagle...
time passes...hard drive zooms...more time passes...THEN: the dread..."this program has encountered a problem and must close. Do you want to alert Microsoft...blah blah blah..."
My computer is a mainstream Compaq...XP...what's wrong?
Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by the graphics program since all i did was load the aerofly cd and installed one patch.....what graphics program and what is the other patch you are talking about?
Also list the specs of your computer in case it has to do something with the hardware.

Correction: One patch...successfully run. Direct-X is what I called "the graphics program."
Program will, upon start-up, will show a dos-like screen as explained above. Then poop out on me, also as explained above.

What kind of specs does your video card have....might not be compatible. Check your sound card also. Check the Manual.pdf file for "requirements" to run the game.

I'll do whatever you ask. How do I find the information you need?
I'm very excited about this program, and disappointed that I'm having troubles...
I appreciate the help!

STL Pilot? I learned to fly full-scale in taildraggers. I assume STL is "Short Takoff and Landing."
I always wanted to fly a Maule or Heliocourier,

Grab your receipt or whatever you have. You should have something that lists what the specs are.
At least ... what video card do you have?

I'm looking through the package which has all the pamphlets which came with my Compaq Presario PC.
I can't find ANY specific info on video card. It's just neanderthal info..."turning on your new PC"...and the like.
I'll try to find the info in my PC itself..."My Computer" maybe?
Do you know where I can find this info quickly?
Again, I really appreciate your help!

Found this on another forum but I'll take it with a pinch of salt :''I was told and read on the forums that the VIA S3G Unicrome chipset is not made for gaming. It does not have T&L support and is not really for 3d stuff. But I have had some things work on it I haven't gotten or tryed any of the games metioned in this topic though.''
Maybe wait for someone that has got AFPD working on that specific card. You could try downloading a newer version of the graphics card's drivers. But the rest of the system's setup seems ok in my eyes. STLPilot would know better perhaps.
Also is the patch you are installing ''afpd18015.exe''??

Okey dokes...then the only advice I can give you is to try installing the latest drivers for your video card if you have not already done that. The graphics card you have is a 64MB card...not ideal for AFPD but should be able to run it fine. Like STLPilot said it might be an OpenGL problem or well looks to me like just plainly a graphics card problem. Don't run out to buy a new card because of what I said though. Maybe someone with a system like yours will jump in soon and be able to help. Might be something completely different wrong.
Oh one more thing! The USB you have the interface plugged into? Is it a high speed USB? I found on my computer that AFPD does not like it when I have the interface plugged into the front of the case. It does exactly what you described above. But if I plug it in the back of the case it runs just fine. Don't know if it's even relevant to your problem though.

I've never heard of that card and I can't find it on Google.
Can you provide a link to the card?
When you purchased the sim did you read and understand requirements? Don't take it the wrong way .... just asking.

OK I found some info at Half Life/CS forum. It's your video card, it's not a gaming card like Spacey said. People are saying that it won't run Half Life and the specs are less then that of an ATI 9000 card. Although I don't know exactly what the specs are, if it won't run Half Life, it won't run AFPD.
Sounds like you have a streamlined computer with a budget card that needs to be upgraded.

I put the following into Yahoo Search and got a bunch of hits...:
VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP
My computer is less than a year old. I guess I ASSumed it was equipped to handle any mainstream software.

Sorry to say this but I've also found quite a bit in forums on the card and STLPilot is right. The card seems to have a lot of problems. People are having hassles with drivers and it's a total mess. Time to find a nice big ATI or Nvidia card for that machine.

Oh so then the boss won't need explaining when you wrote off $800 for a graphics card? LOL....Sorry but my knowledge of prices on cards in the states is none. In South Africa you would have been able to get a fairly descent card for about that price

RE: Aerofly doesn't run..ARGHHH!!!
I really hate to say this but I've been in computer industry for many years.
One of the reasons that these manufacturers use such fancy words like Pentium, Celeron, Rage, XP and other powerful words is to make common Joe computer shopper (which accounts for most of the buyers market) into fooling them into thinking that what they are getting is always the latest and greatest.
I've been the family computer shopper now for many years, cousins, brothers, parents etc. My advice to you is get in touch with the family computer person/geek (there is always one) and have him or her help you everytime you purchase or upgrade your computer. Don't listen to salesman or fancy magazine words or ads. Listen to people that you can trust and REALLY know what they are talking about.
Now my advice to you is to get an ATI 9800TX Raedon card. They are going for about 150+. Just do some websurfing to get your best price. Or goto Aeroflypro.com and look under requirements. You'll see other cards too. But before you or identify, come back and check with what you found.
