AFP deluxe- recognizes USB, but no interface on jr 8103
Hi I was excited to try my new sim, but after installing, I tried to run the program and it says "located USB, but no interface." What's the deal? Someone said I may need an adapter for the jr 8103???
If this is so, then does aerofly send you one? I purchased mine through OMP.
thanks

This will likely get editted/deleted, but....This could be your problem.
The AFP cables have the wrong plug for JR radios. ALL JR RADIOS (call Horizon if you don't beleive me!) use a MONO jack for the DSC/Trainer port. The AFP cable has a STEREO plug. In most cases, the proper portions of the STEREO lpug makes contact in the MONO recepticle and you are OK. But sometime it does not. You can make an adapter or change the plug to a MONO plug to solve this problem.
The AFP response to this when I addressed it on the old AFP forums was somehow blame JR....

RE: AFP deluxe- recognizes USB, but no interface on jr 8103
The reason that it's stereo is that it will be universal for Airtronics and JR.
BUT JR did change the tolerances on their DSC ports which then changed the plug. Nobody's going to blame JR for anything.
However since his radio is an older version of JR, then it's not going to be the plug.
Also take your module out .... do you have another JR radio you can try?

Hi, I tried a quattro and had the same problem. When I called aerofly in FL the gentleman stated the same thing that Lewis stated in his above quote. There seems to be a problem with the mono vs stereo. Are you familiar with this STL Pilot? What do I do to fix this? I now have G3 and aerofly. I really want this to work.

Yes we all are familiar with the problem. You can try changing the sterio plug on the interface to a mono plug. Or just make yourself a little adapter which has a female sterio connector and a male mono connecter on the other end to experiment. But like STLPilot said this should not be your problem if it is still an old 8103. But you can try it. By old we mean 2 years or so old. Before the JR 9X came out. I know my 9X won't work on the interface unless I change the plug. But yes as stated if the Quattro didn't work something else is wrong.
You left the both radios switched off right? As soon as you plug the interface in the radio should go into buddy mode and switch on itself like it should.

Well if you want to try the JR plug order it and choose free shipping.
Looks like we are going to have to recommend the plug for all JR radios.

I had to change the plug to get it to work with my ancient Quattro buddy box as well as my brand new 8103...Neither one would consistently make contact. I tried both extensivley before going to Radio Shack and getting the right plug. Never had a problem since.

OK lets run through the whole thing again.
1) When you plug the USB in does windows give a little info cloud on the bottom and confirms that there is a human interface plugged in? This without the radio plugged in.
2) When you start up the sim without the USB or the radio plugged in it should give a white window stating that there is no USB interface plugged in. When you then plug in the cable that window should dissapear and another one should appear stating that the radio is not connected? Is this working right?
3) If that works you can then plug the interface into the radio. The transmitter MUST be in PPM mode and it must also be switched off! Also the radio have to be charged. The second white window should also go away now or you should click on search for it to check again. If it goes away then the software is ready to rumble. If it doesn't we have a problem for sure.
Can you run through these couple of steps please? Also if you plug in the Interface cable into the tx regardless of weather it is connected to the computer the radio should also switch on by itself. The 8103 should show on the screen that it is in trainer mode? Does this happen?

The answer to step one is that just plugging in the cable does not show any screen or anything at the bottom of the screen.
Step two and three worked like it should have.
regarding the trainer mode on the radio, it comes on when the cord is plugged in (I'm assuming it is in trainer mode, but it does not specifically say that.
BTW, I tried to start the sim after step two worked and it came on, but the controls were all backwards and on diff sticks. There seemed to some mild response to input??

You do have to calibrate the transmitter in the program to get proper operation. It is all spelled out in the manual.

STL Pilot- I haven't flown the sim in a few months. I'm trying to reload and am having the same problem as above. The sim can't find the transmitter. I've bought the sim from you and the additional cord. Could it be a bad/defective cord??? Is there anything else I can try???
thanks

The cord could be defective ... but usually at least will detect the transmitter.
Do you have another radio? If the cord works on another radio then it's ok.

RE: AFP deluxe- recognizes USB, but no interface on jr 8103
I received AFP today but didn't receive the Futaba adaper that I ordered.
Don't understand why as I ordered them both at the same time.
Pretty frustrating having the program and can't do anything with it.
It came with a usb cable that has a stereo plug on the end.
Can you tell me the pins that the cable connects to on the Futaba TX?
I can make an adapter to go between the TX and the stereo plug until they
resolve my adapter problem.
Thanks

Hi STL Pilot,
I tried two different radios and no luck. I believe I have a defective cord. Is there anything else I can try? I hate to be "down".
