Default AFP Comm port problem

I just purchased AFP in hopes it would be able to run on my laptop. The progam loads fine but I don't have the 9 pin Comm port on this machine. I have a 9 pin monitor plug as well as a 25 pin printer plug and USB ports. Is there a way to make the 9 pin connector that comes with AFP connect and be recognized by my laptop? It is a Windows XP operating system if that should make a difference. If I need to go in and make adjustments somewhere please be as explicit as possible. I know how to use the machine but changing settings isn't my strong suit. Thanks in advance.

You might not like this solution but a Serial to USB connector should fix you up.

Also check with Radio Shack or Local computer Supply House and they should have something like it. As the USB Trend has it Serial Ports will be a thing in the Past. I hope that helps any.

Many, many thanks David.

I thought that would do the trick but I wasn't for sure and didn't want to make the additional investment until someone gave me a little confidence. I assume that you do know for sure that it will be recognized with this adapter? Anyone with first hand experience?

Sorry I do not have first hand Experience with the AFP Cable and matting it with a Serial to USB connector, but I do not see why it wouldn't work. Anyone Else done this????
