Default AFPD Model Generator/Modifier

What's available for modifying and/or creating AFPD aircraft?

I am finding the model edit function of AFPD very limited compared to RealFlight. For example, you can change the wingspan, but you can't change the length of the fuselage! Also, I don't see a way to change the motor from fuel to electric. I am trying to modify the pattern plane that comes with AFPD to make it a small electric to simulate my Fliton Quiet Storm. I did this kind of thing quite often when I had RF G2, but am finding AFPD does not facilitate this kind of thing. So then I looked for a model generator to make my own, and all I could find is something called MAD, which is way overkill for what I'd like to do.

The models available for download are mostly (1) 3D airplanes, (2) european airplanes, or (3) gliders. The variety and selection of planes for AFPD is not very broad, hence the need to dig in and build models to simulate my hangar of planes, so I can effectively exploit the potential this wonderful simulator.

How are the models that are downloadable for AFPD being created? Is there a simple 3rd party model creation program out there in internet space somewhere, or something that provides advanced editing for the AFPD models?

Thanks for whatever suggestions, leads, or tips you can provide.

Hi,

Well here's how most of the downloadable aircrafts are made:

It's not simple[sm=confused.gif]!

Here's some links to some tips that may help you!:

I hope this helps somewhat[]!

My worst fears are realized.

Since I don't have time to make a career out of modifying a model, guess I'll make do with what I have, and hope somebody makes some non-3D electrics for us someday.

Thanks for the feedback and tips!

If you dont like it use RF with its excellent physics engine

It is not that hard to create a model if you have a basic knowledge of a program like CAD or someting along those lines anyway.

I find that even if a plane does not looks the same it can still have fairly similar flight chacratersitics. The P-51 on AFP flies almost exactly the same as my old trainer, as in roll rates, climb and glide rates and so on. If you mess around with the CG and throws you can get them very close. There is a way to change from glow to electric as well, at least the sound anyway. Who really cares what it sounds like as long as it flies the way you want.

It nowhere says that AFPD will fly 100% the same as your own aircraft or even have the planes you want. It is essentially a computer game pretending to be the real thing as best it can. The reason they are building 3D planes is because thats what people want. If people where aksing for electric models all the time thats what they would get. If you post a request in a forum or email someone concerned you will eventually get what you ask for.

I think you should try a little harder to modify the glow version, I think you will find if you do the only difference will be the sound.

Why not download the mini giles or use the original shockflyer edge and using the AFPD edit aircraft funccion just reduce the throws, maybe move the cg, diferent prop... until it might not look like your plane but if you get it right it will fly like it

Have you seen this thread? There are many planes of EVERY type available and very many of them.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3038243/tm.htm

There are now over 1,000 planes for AFP(D). More then all other top end sims combined. Also if you request it enough times, it will usually pop up.

Also the editor does a lot more then you think it does. Keep using it you'll see. Every so often this thread pops up then makes a U-Turn after a couple days of using it and discovering what it can really do.

STLPilot - Thanks for the feedback. I check the list you created in that thread about every month or so. Thanks for creating it.

I agree that AFPD is the tops, that's why I switched from RFG2. I've poked every button and menu in the AFPD edit pages and don't find a way to say change the fuselage length, or change a fuel powered plane to an electric powered plane, like was easily done in RFG2. That's why I wondered if there was a 3rd party editor out there somewhere.

Also, even though I'm using your list, I'm apparently not looking in all the right places for planes. I just did a quick inventory of the main download sites, and can only come up with 358 (ONLY?). Even that is incredible availability of models compared to RF, and plenty to keep anybody busy. But if you eliminate the duplicates, and varied color schemes of the same planes, there appear to ONLY (ha ha) be about 250 planes for AFPD. So I'm wondering where the other 500+ planes are that you mention. Is it that AFP planes work in AFPD? If so, I have a whole lot of other planes to look at!

Thanks for your feedback. I'm not bashing AFPD, I'm just looking for ways to exploit it for all it's worth! ) But I have to admit that for $165 I'm dissapointed in loosing the edit capabilities I had in RFG2. But I'll cope, and have no intentions of going back to RF. Yes, I know you CAN do this or that with several hours of tinkering, or pretend ABC plane is XYZ plane, but I was hoping for something a little more user friendly related to customizing practice planes I actually have (over 20 btw).

If you ever get a chance to give a wish list to the AFPD model builders, I'm looking for the popular ARF airplanes available at places like Tower, Hobby-People, and Hobby-Lobby (i.e. the big 4 or 5 ARF makers). In the meantime I'll substitute the European models for the pattern practice I sorely need!

Later...

P.S. Here's the mini-survey I just did...

Default RE: AFPD Model Generator/Modifier

p.s. Has anybody taken the time to list every AFPD plane available, and where to get it? I know this would be quite a chore for someone, but man would it be a valuable resource for AFPD users.

In the meantime I am substituting the HYPE3D for my Quiet Storm, and Stearman for my Saito 30 powered Pacific Aeromodels Tiger Moth. Suggestions for subsitutes for GWS P-51, Great Planes Super SlowPoke (Saito .56), Combat Wings XL, GP Electra, Troybuilt Monte, Mini-Funtana, and HL Grumbler (on floats) would be welcome. Thanks!

Your numbers are WAYYYYYYY off. Just to start off with there are more then 600 alone at rcsim.de.

All AFP and AFPD planes/helis/gliders work for AFPD.

Just out of curiousity, where does it say that?

Adding in the AFP models would certainly make a difference all right. My totals were for AFPD planes only.

Thanks for the info. I'm off to find new planes!

You can also use Easyfly aircraft with a few limitations click here: [link=http://ipacs-sim.com/test/faq_3.htm]Easyfly to AFPD![/link]

In the sofware industry most newer programs will run the files of the previous version. The older programs just can't run the newer stuff.

Either way ... now ya know!
