RE: Dell Dimension 5100
I had a Dimension 5400 (2.4gig, 512Meg) with a Radeon 128K card. With AFPD, I got frame rates in the 80-120fps range. I have since upgraded to a Dimension XPS (3.4gig, 1.5gig mem ) and an Nvidia 256K card and get frame rates in the 120 to 160fps range. I found the older machine to be fine. Occasionally you would see the plane twitch but rarely.
Of greater concern, until I figured it out, was the program going nuts periodically. After going through three cables and considerable messing around with the computer, I determined that the dongle in the AFPD cable is incredibly sensitive to static electricity. So now, I wear a ground strap when I run AFPD and have no problems. I am using a coiled wire wrist ground strap from Radio Shack that I clip to the chassis of the computer, eg, the exposed metal grid in the rear of the machine. This may not apply to everyone but in my case, in my house, here in the NW with the weather we have, it is a problem. The ground strap solved it.
