Default Installation procedure for AFPD scenery downloads

Here's a guide on how to install downloaded AFPD sceneries from the various free websites. This is a drag-and-drop method which I find is easier and faster, compared to unzipping.

Most downloaded sceneries come in the form of an executable file, and all you have to do is to double click on the downloaded zip file, then double click on the scenery .exe file and this will automatically install it into AFPD. An example is shown below

However, some downloaded sceneries may not be in the form of an executable file and requires manual installation. Open up the zip file and you'll see a folder and a set of files as shown below

Double click on the folder to open it and you'll see another set of files. Double click on the .exe file and run it. A scenery folder will be created on your desktop.

Note: If there are no .exe and .bat files, then probably all files have been extracted and you may go the the last step (post 5 below)

Open the new scenery folder and you'll find a folder and a set of files. Double click on the folder, and run the install.bat file to extract all .tmt files. Then click on the window "back" button to return to the scenery folder, and keep that window open

Finally, open up the scenery folder in AFPD which can be found in this directory C:\Program Files\IPACS\AeroFly Professional Deluxe\scenery

Drag and drop the scenery folder, and the .geo, lg.bmp, and .bmp files into the AFPD scenery folder

Close all open windows and you're all set! You should be able to load and fly in the new scenery in AFPD.

Graham, the Overstedt scenery files from rcsim.de are "raw" panoramic image files and they need more processing before they can be installed and work in AFPD. If you read the text file in the download, it says you will need to use an AFPD wizard to "create new scenery from pano image". I don't think this wizard is available anymore, and you will still need to map the scenery for collision after that. So, it's a lot of work. Well, there are plenty of good sceneries to choose from. Enjoy!
