Aerofly Deluxe + dx5e + WinXP = No working
Hi all,
Trying to use the collective brains of the forum to help me out...
I have an older version of the simulator and the cable that came with it (attached photo) and am trying to set it up on a Windows machine (WinXP) with a Spektrum DX53 Transmitter. However it crashes as soon as it tries to look for the interface and doesn't work.
So i am asking: Does this older cable will still work or do i need to purchase a new one as every time the program loads it crashes at the 'looking for controller' stage (attached photo)
I have upgraded the software from the original simulator purchase.
Does this crash look like a conflict with the computer hardware or is it a 'sim' problem?
Also i plan on using this sim with my own controller (DX6i so is there any problem with this unit)
I am trying to teach my brother to fly and really need this simulator working.
Thanks in advance for a quick reply,
DaveAustralia

Hi Dave, what is the exact error message you're getting? Did you set the radio to PPM mode and are you using a JR adapter cable between the usb interface cable and the radio?
1) Tell me exactly what kind of hardware you have, especially 3D graphics card, CPU, and any other hardware installed, sound card etc.
2) What is the RAM size?
3) Which operating system are you using, XP or Vista? 32 bit or 64 bit?
4) Tell me exactly what drivers you installed for the 3D graphics card.
5) Which addons do you have?
6) What is the version number printed on your main AFPD disk?
7) How did you install the main disk, addons, and patch (which version?), and what was the sequence of installation?
8) Please post the tm.log file which you can find in the following directory
C:\Program Files\IPACS\AeroFly Professional Deluxe
You may open the file with a text editor like word or notepad. Just copy and paste the entire content into your post.

I did find these errors inside the 'System Info export'

Which points me to a soundcard conflict?? The sound card is only used for the joystick connection for use on another simulator (MS Flight Sim FSX). I tried pulling the actual sounds card out but that didn't help...
I'll keep trying... But any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Also does the DX5e have to be turned on or off to use the program? I was trying off.

It seems like that there is some conflict with the soundcard or usb device. Try updating the driver for your soundcard and remove other usb devices e.g. joystick, gamepad, etc
You may also want to try disabling the directsound hardware acceleration. To change the audio hardware acceleration setting:
1) Click Start, and then click Run.
2) In the Open box, type dxdiag, and then click OK.
3) Click the Sound tab.
4) Under DirectX Features, move the Hardware Sound Acceleration Level slider all the way to the left (no acceleration).
5) Click Exit.
Yes, you will need the 31036 adapter to use your JR or Spektrum radio. You should keep the radio main switch off. When you insert the adapter cable, the radio should turn on automatically.

RE: Aerofly Deluxe + dx5e + WinXP = No working
Hi again...
I've had some success... I got the simulator working with a different computer (laptop) so it is definitely a conflict around the soundcard or USB device. I still have to work on that to get it to work on the desktop.
The cable does actually work however i had read, and just remembered, that the little black plastic cover on the cable plug (the one connecting to the controller) is too long and prevents the actual metal part of the plug from seating fully into the female part of the connector. I have had to unscrew the black plastic cover and fully seat the plug. I then slowly wind the black plastic cover back on the plug until it connects. It's a bit finicky but does work after a little bit of mucking around.... I will have to look at replacing the plug to make it work beter but it is working now.
If anyone has a suggestion to move the trainer plug position or a better switch then i would love to hear about it....
I have found this post which i will research a little more... http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1164460
Thanks very much to Rajul for your assistance. I'll keep working on getting it successfully load on the desktop.
