RE: THROTTLE SERVO LOCATION
I always mount my throttle servos as near to the throttle as I can get them and that means on the engine box as you described.
However, I make and sell an optical isolator that puts the servo, servo control board, and ingnition on one switch using the ignition battery pack and have done this since before 2.4 radio systems.

RE: THROTTLE SERVO LOCATION
Great advise but I would like to add just a couple items. Do not use a metal pushrod and make sure the bal links/clevis are plastic. This will help keep and noise from radiating in the rod and possibly getting picked up by the servo. I also like to see the servo wires twisted. This applies to any servo wires longer then 24". Try to keep the ignition and RX switches a minimum of 12" apart.
